Maria is sitting behind her desk with three others, including Oriol.
Maria: Well, the results are coming in faster now. We’re expecting results from both Butterfly Island and Costeno province soon… and I’m hearing that the results from Butterfly Island are ready, so we’ll go straight to Seahaven.
Cut to a fancy looking sports hall, that has clearly been recently built, a podium surrounded by journalists and political party representatives. A man in a suit is standing at the podium.
Man: The total number of votes cast was 889,217. The number of rejected ballots was 735. The total number of votes cast for each candidate is as follows.
Samantha Clavell, Green-Pacifist Alliance: 213,236 votes
Paul Doberman, Lauchenoiria First: 38,204 votes
Emilia Obando, Liberal Party: 264,768 votes
Fabián Sandoval, Conservative Party: 216,790 votes
Katherine Wright, Feminist Party: 5330 votes
Nataniel Zavala, Communist Party: 150,154 votes.

Maria: Well, this is looking very different from the Aelurian results earlier in the evening. The Liberals have done much better in Butterfly Island than the Communists, and it seems that the Conservatives and the Green-Pacifist alliance are neck-in-neck on the island. Oriol, thoughts on these results?
Oriol: Well, Butterfly Island is generally a better indicator than Aeluria for national results, so I expect the Communists are not too happy right now. The Liberals will be relieved after the upset of Aeluria earlier in the night. I imagine Clavell is feeling quite excited just now, it seems that she really is in this race, making it a true four-way contest rather than the three-way vote that many expected. The Greens and the Pacifists will be congratulating themselves on the alliance just now, which seems to be working well for them. But there’s still everything to play for.
Maria: Thank you Oriol. We also have results from Costeno province about to come in. Now, Costeno province was the hardest-hit during the war by many measures, which is likely to influence their vote. Polling from Costeno has indicated that the population has shifted to the right, but the only poll that matters is the one on the day. We’ll go now to Carville.
Cut to a hall which looks like it’s been patched up fairly recently after half of it was hit by a bomb. Nobody is at the podium yet, and people are milling around and talking. After a minute or so, a rushed looking man hurries to the podium.
Man: The results from Costeno province for the first round of presidential elections are as follows. Total number of votes cast: 4,237,301. Number of rejected and invalid ballot papers, 531. Each candidate received the following votes.
Samantha Clavell, Green-Pacifist Alliance: 864,569 votes
Paul Doberman, Lauchenoiria First: 275,130 votes
Emilia Obando, Liberal Party: 1,212,241 votes
Fabián Sandoval, Conservative Party: 920,389 votes
Katherine Wright, Feminist Party: 50,342 votes
Nataniel Zavala, Communist Party: 914,161 votes.
Back in studio.
Maria: The Liberal party will be rejoicing at this result. Over one million votes in Costeno for the Liberal Party. While the Conservatives did increase their numbers, it seems to have been far less dramatic than predicted, which will come as a disappointment to Sandoval and to that party. We now have a tally of the percentages so far.
A colourful board appears behind Maria.
Samantha Clavell, Green-Pacifist Alliance: 20.9%
Paul Doberman, Lauchenoiria First: 6.1%
Emilia Obando, Liberal Party: 28.7%
Fabián Sandoval, Conservative Party: 22.2%
Katherine Wright, Feminist Party: 1.1%
Nataniel Zavala, Communist Party: 20.8%
Maria: The Communists are in fourth place once more, which will come as a big disappointment for them, especially following that exit poll. It looks like the Liberals will definitely be heading to the next round, but that second spot is still a three-way competition.
