Drambenburgian Oberkanzlerin (Upper Chancellor) Walde Herzog and Avergnonian Elected Archon Franz Selleaux are en-route to Tofino today to attend a mediation conference hosted by Zamastanian President Foley Sakzi to hopefully quell the escalated tensions following massive troop movements along the border of the two southeast Nerian nations. The tensions come as Drambenburg recovers from a dramatic riot in the capital of Lerbin on March 3rd, which saw the Obergruppenkaiser Peter XXI Wettin executed by rioting protesters in the center of the mall, along with his wife and four children.
Sakzi, who is on a streak of good public opinion on the helm of victories in territorial gains from the M.L.F. in Vulkaria, as well as the killing of terrorist mastermind Van’a Kamoni and the setting of a summit between him and Xiomeran Empress Yauhmi soon, is “ambitious to end a conflict before it begins,” according to senior staff to the President.
In the midst of the upheaved crisis, the number of refugees from Drambenburg have increased as more and more try to find asylum and better livelihood in both Avergnon to the south and Tinten to the north. President Sakzi has reiterated his resolve to take on refugees if needed. He has also stated that he hopes for a peaceful resolution to any outbreak of violence, and that he hopes to prevent a conflict in the region. Zamastanian interests are not historically high in Neria, but the relatively recent establishments of diplomatic relations, as well as the developments from the Z.I.S. that both nations possess considerable stockpiles of chemical weapons, has played into fears that a war in the region will unravel into a wider conflict and a humanitarian crisis that has the possibility of exceeding the Vulkaria conflicts and the West Chanchajillan migrant crisis.
Historically, Drambenburg and Avergnon have had numerous clashes and conflicts between the two of them since the 17th century.
