AD14 adenovirus cases found in Huānoch

Three AD14 Adenovirus cases have been reported in the Milintican capital, Huānoch, officials with the Ministry of Health and Human Services reported today.

The three cases are all workers at Independence Airport, Health Minister Ramarie Nepe told reporters. The health ministry is “concerned” that the three workers may have contracted the adenovirus through contact with a foreign visitor or visitors who entered Milintica through the airport. Teams of health ministry workers and security personnel are attempting to trace possible sources of contact, and find anyone else who may be in need of quarantine or treatment, Nepe said.

Opponents of President Matōchmizalo seized on the report as evidence that his policy of not closing the nation’s borders to visitors from countries where the virus has emerged has unnecessarily endangered the Milintican people. Thirty-five political leaders, including some from the President’s own MPP party, have signed a resolution calling for him to close the borders. The resolution also called for the government to quarantine all foreign visitors who have entered the country since the virus first emerged on an international level. The resolution cites concerns that Milintica’s health services, which struggle with chronic underfunding, are not capable of handling a major illness outbreak.

Despite these concerns, the President and the Health Minister have both assured the public that the recent victims of AD14 in Milintica “do not constitute any kind of epidemic” and that the situation is well under control.
