Congressional Hall passed sweeping sanctions to be instated immediately against West Chanchajilla and the government of dictator Frederick Armbar following a failed coup and mass executions of dozens of accused perpetrators by regime forces. President Foley Sakzi was present as Speaker of the Chamber Larious Maxwell signed the official documentation, a move which experts say is the first time a sitting President has been present during legislative signing of sanctions against a foreign nation.
The sanctions target West Chanchajillan oil, mineral, and agricultural products, and they also prohibit a large majority of humanitarian aid entering the country via Zamastanian aid organizations and government supply lines.
"We urge you to immediately and forcefully impose sanctions on the government of the People's Republic of Chanchajilla, any West Chanchajillan actors determined to be responsible for such vile crimes against humanity, and those acting on their behalf or providing material or financial support for these horrendous acts," wrote Congressional lawmakers before the vote. The sanctions passed with a sweeping 497-3 vote, making a clear statement against the Armbar regime.
