Two Zamastanian troops were killed Wednesday after the vehicle they were riding in was hit by an improvised explosive device planted by the Malvarian Liberation Front in Northwestern Vulkaria, according to a Zamastan military statement reported by the Tofino Times. Three other soldiers were injured. The deaths on Wednesday brought the total Zamastanian casualty figures in Vulkaria as of the start of Coalition operations to nine. Seven soldiers were killed during the fighting to capture the city of Freeborn last week, and today's casualties occurred a mile west of Freeborn behind what has been considered enemy lines.

The vehicle was part of a convoy that was performing reconnaissance and delivering supplies to troops who are dug in on the front. The fighting in Vulkaria, with the exception of raids on enemy compounds and the recent fighting in Freeborn, has been relatively relaxed. However, the M.L.F. and affiliates like the V.N.A. and B.O.R.A. have staged near daily attacks on coalition forces.

The Armed Forces did not identify the service members who were killed, per Defense Department policy.
