Empress Wu Zhou of Shen passes away

God-Empress Wu Zhou of Shen passed away on the 21st November at 11pm local time. The Empress died peacefully in her sleep. President Rebecca Arnott has expressed her condolences for the death of her mother to the new God-Empress, Wu Zhao. Several Councillors have also issued independent statements.

“My thoughts are with God-Empress Wu Zhao at this time. Gaining power upon the death of a mother is often difficult, as I and many in Kerlile know. I trust she can find the wisdom to get through this time, with the death of her mother and siblings. While Kerlile and Shen have not been on the best terms, I wish her the best,” President Arnott said.

Councillor Letitia Greenwood, presently in Shuell, has also expressed her condolences. She has reportedly sent a letter to the new Empress sending her best wishes. Her mother, former President Joanna Greenwood is presently in Shen, having accepted an offer to take up a position as a Professor at Biaking University where she will teach Feminist History and Women’s Studies.

Other Councillors have signed a joint letter expressing their condolences, including Jennifer Hale, Carmen Robinson and Natalia Hart. Councillor Hale has, however, expressed her disapproval of the Shen system of succession, which involves the death of all children of the previous Emperor or Empress except their chosen successor. Councillor Hale called the practice “inhumane and archaic” and has asked the Shen to reconsider their policy “in light of the changes of modern times”.

Former President Greenwood will be attending the funeral of the Empress, set to take place on the 30th November, along with the Kerlian Ambassador to Shen. Juliette Greenwood, youngest daughter of President Greenwood is considering attendance, however due to the large number of members of the Greenwood family presently outside of Kerlile, a security assessment will need to be carried out.
