11:37. Amber Villa pool room, Celestial palace, Shen empire.
There was nothing quite like a late-night swim. Well, nothing quite like one for Wu Shi, eldest daughter of the empress. the middle-aged woman was swimming more and more recently. Her age was finally starting to catch up with her. She spent her life as an athlete. Pushing her body to its limit. She even managed to represent her Empire in the Olympics, walking home with a silver medal. But that was when she was a much younger woman. Nowadays she found the after-effects of exercise to be strenuous. Her old frame taking days to recover after long-distance runs. She still kept up, but it was harder. Now she relegated her exercise mostly to the swimming pool. It was better for her joints and still allowed her to remain active.
Climbing up on to the starting parapet overlooking the Olympic size swimming pool, located within the Amber villa of the celestial Palace, she positioned herself, resting her legs against the platform. With a single movement, she projected herself forward slamming into the water like a knife slicing its way through butter. Powering through the clam liquid, bringing her head up only to take rhythmic breaths before bringing it back down.
When she reached the other side of the water, she turned around and positioned herself against the wall ready to burst forth with another shot of speed. While she was stationary, she looked up through the clear water, to see her bodyguard standing there patiently. Another man had just walked into the room and was talking to the Imperial Guardsman who was assigned to her. She didn't think anything of it, choosing to continue doing laps. Projecting herself forward with everything her middle-aged body could manage.
Slicing through to the other side she repeated the process. Pressing her legs against the wall and springing off shooting herself forward.
She was approaching the wall again. Getting ready to turn around and press against the wall with her feet to send herself flying as she had with her previous lap when suddenly, a loud sound of splashing and the feeling of water being pushed around alerted her to something happening. She tried to swim up to the top to see what was going on but before she broke the water and breathed, a hand grabbed her by her shoulder and forced her down.
Suddenly the feeling of shock radiated over her body. She desperately tried to push up, attempting to get to the surface. Struggling upwards inching forward. Millimeter by millimeter. She felt her muscles starting to grow weak. Her body begging for a fresh breath of oxygen, as everything began to grow dark. She felt the brim of her head break the water. The feeling of air on her forehead. She was about to do it. She was about to breathe. She would have a chance to fight back. She would survive. But it all ended just as quickly as it had begun. The second sound of splashing was heard. A second arm was on her other shoulder pushing her down. The weight of two anchors slammed her into the water. Her body had no more energy left and it gave out. Silent screams and she finally released her breath watching as the bubbles rose to the surface. It was only a moment longer before she could not stop her eyes closing for the last time…..
