[/hr]VOL. XXXII .. Num. 6300 | In the News: Bishop Comments on Xiomera

President Bishop Apparent Lack of Knowledge On Xiomeran "Election" Process Sparks Controversy
President Bishop on Monday morning was asked in a press pool whether she "endorsed or had any preferences for who in the Xiomeran imperial selection process would ultimately become the new Emperor."
Bishop responded saying "I thought that their current Emperor has already been in power since Topilpopoca's passing, so I don't know what process you're exactly referring to. As to whether I want to work with their Emperor, yes, of course, I want to try and gain better relations."
The questions from the press pool then shifted strongly away from the often shuffled and spanning a broad range of topics and began to form more around the Xiomeran comments, with an indication quickly becoming clear that President Bishop and her staff may not be aware of the Xiomeran "election" currently underway. Here's a brief recap of the selection process.
In Xiomera, when an emperor passes away or abdicates the throne, the Imperial Palace begins a process to select (a.k.a.; elect) a new Emperor. The pool of candidates is far ranging, but quickly shrinks as the most qualified individuals in accordance with the choosing of the Xiomeran elite become more well known. This specific election cycle is a unique one, as Topilpopoca's standing on the world stage was greatly heightened before his death and burial in Tlālacuetztla. The new Emperor has not been chosen yet as of the publication of this article.
The President's comments indicate a severe lack of knowledge in regards to this case. The specific "I thought that their current Emperor has already been in power since Topilpopoca's passing" quote is evidence enough of the thought process going on. Bishop and every official in the Zian Presidential Mansion have advisors who inform and divulge information in every important aspect of Zamastanian interest. Considering a history of tensions between Xiomera and Zamastan, including military tensions and more recently an extensive and costly trade war, it's curious that the President and her staff are not more up to date. It portrays, perhaps correctly and perhaps in the sentiment only, that the President has put her intentions and priorities with Xiomera on the coffee table to cool.
Secondly, "so I don't know what process you're exactly referring to" shows her admission of not knowing that there was this process at all. Zamastanian government officials, including many of the President's opposition and some of her own party alike, commented on the comments. Senator Euan Gunn, a candidate for President in 2020 and a member of the GLP, said "the President's apparent lack of concern, interest, and any knowledge whatsoever on Xiomera points to a severe breach of the necessary understanding needed to make executive decisions. I pray that the President begins to clear her mind from whatever seems to be distracting her from this important situation. The outcome of the Xiomeran selection could have ramifications of benefits for Zamastan, and so regardless of the candidate that takes the throne, it's imperative that we pay close attention."
