VOL. XXXII .. Num. 5900 | In the News: Zamastan-Gladysynthia Tensions Flare
GLADYSYNTHIAN MILITARY BEGINS OPERATION AGAINST REBELS, THREATENING BORDER TOWNS IN ZAMASTAN
NORTHERN ISLE: REPORTS OF EXPLOSIONS ON ZAMASTANIAN SIDE OF BORDER
The raising tensions on the border tonight spread to the Zamastanian side where explosions were reported in towns along the Northern Isle Administrative District. Reports have said that the Gladysynthian air force launched an all-out attack on separatist forces in the Danaska area on southern Gladysynthia but that there had been missed fire that hit over the border.
The offensive appears to mark a dangerous new front in a possible conflict between Gladysynthia and Zamastan.
Zamastan immediately accused Gladysynthia of planning and executing the attack on the Brown Encle Ridge, a small but strategic enclave just inside the Danaska valley controlled by Zamastanian forces since 2006.
Gladysynthia has denied claims that they were purposefully attacking Zamastanian forces under the guise of attacking rebel forces, though a Zamastanian interior ministry spokesman said: "They have started the operation to storm Brown Encle gorge." Asked who was behind the operation, he replied: "The Gladysynthian army."
Speaking in Tofino, President Anya Bishop said she had "irrefutable proof" that the Gladysynthian military was masterminding the "plan". She urged residents to stay calm, adding: "The enemy will be offered all resistance."
Zamastan also said Gladysynthia had landed 600 troops on Sunday night in the Danaska Regional town of Hissp'l, brought from the city of Danaska.
It added that 10 Gladysynthian jets had attacked rebel-controlled "upper Hissp'l" on Saturday, and rebel troops had shot one of them down.
Zamastanian troops are on high alert in case of any breach of the border by Gladysynthian troops.
