GLADYSYNTHIA MASSES TROOPS AT BORDER
LAFLAUNCE CALLS FOR UNITY AND STRENGTH AGAINST ZAMASTAN

A week of escalating tensions, including an accidental mine explosion that killed four Zamastanian soldiers and a miscommunication that led to the exchange of gunfire across the Danaska River has no signs of stopping soon. The Government of Gladysynthia has deployed an additional 30,000 troops to their southern border with Zamastan in a move that Tofino has described as a "dangerous continuation of escalation that completely blows the current state of affairs into further turmoil." Premiere Seswitch LaFlaunce on Sunday morning said the move of military assets is to establish a strong stance against any possible Zamastanian movements and that "Gladysynthia needs to remain unified and strong in the face of adversity." The tone, many in the Zamastanian official circle, site this as a change from a previously peaceful resolve by the Gladysynthian premiere to more of a war-mongering sound.

President Anya Bishop has stated she hopes the escalations on the border will end, but has not talked much on the details of her plans for the border in public. She avoided a question directed to her during a daily press briefing where a Jade Harbor Tribune reporter asked what she would be willing to do in case more Zamastanian troops were injured or killed.

The move, announced on Sunday, represents a major shift in Gladysynthia's operations against G.P.F.F. rebels in the Danaska region and came hours after Zamastan said it was withdrawing some troops from the area to avoid getting caught in the middle of the fast-escalating civil conflict. The rebel separatist group has been fighting to gain independence from Gladysynthia since 1945, but the conflict has not heated up for nearly 12 years. The last major escalation was in 2007, when Gladysynthian troops were ambushed by a large contingency of rebel forces. The ensuing conflict lasted four months and led to the deaths of 400 civilians and 50 soldiers. Two Zamastanian troops were also killed by rebel shelling.
