Funeral, memorial for Emperor announced
Imperial officials have confirmed that the funeral for Emperor Topilpopoca will be held on October 12th, beginning at 9:00 am.
A memorial service will be held for the Emperor at the Huēyi Teōcalli, presided over by priests of Huītzilōpōchtli. An eulogy will be given by Chief Justice Nopalliztli, and the Emperor will then be transported to the Imperial Cemetery in Montelin at noon for burial. The memorial service will be open to family members, Xiomeran officials and foreign dignitaries only, but will be televised for the public.
The burial will be a private ceremony attended only by the Emperor's family and close friends. Xiomerans and visitors are encouraged to stand along the motorcade route to pay their respects to the fallen Emperor and his family.
Details of Great Selection released
Imperial officials responsible for the Great Selection to elect a new Emperor confirmed today that it will begin on October 14th.
The Great Selection will be held at the Huēyi Teōcalli, and will be attended by candidates, voting members of the national ihuicatl, and select foreign dignitaries. While the public will not be allowed to attend for the first time ever due to security concerns, the entire Great Selection will be broadcast and streamed live. Foreign and domestic press will also be allowed to attend.
The Great Selection is the process by which a council of five hundred experts convene to choose an Emperor from eligible candidates. The shortest ever Great Selection was the first one, in 1840, in which the Empress Camaxtica was the only candidate and the entire vote took six minutes. The longest Great Selection was in 2001, when the Emperor Topilpopoca was first elected after a process that took 27 days and required fifteen separate votes.
Citizens begin mourning week
People throughout the nation have begun publicly mourning the loss of the Emperor Topilpopoca, while still remaining faithful believers in the strength of the Xiomeran Empire and its bright future.
Large mourning events led by the Patriotic Youth Corps, Xiomeran Servicepersons and Protectors Association, Xiomeran Students' Association and the Good Citizens' League have been taking place in most Xiomeran cities. Smaller spontaneous demonstrations of the peoples' grief have been occurring as well. People have been leaving flowers and offerings, as well as having candlelight vigils for the Emperor and his family.
"We have lost a great man and a father to our nation, but because of his never-ending hard work and dedication to making Xiomera strong, his legacy will live on in us," Tlitōn, a factory worker and member of the GCL, said when asked to express his thoughts at a ceremony in Tlimā, a suburb of the capital.
At another ceremony in Huitzitaca, the local XSPA leader, retired soldier Cosztenoyhue, had this to say: "The way we can honor Topilpopoca best is to remain brave, face down the plots of anyone who would weaken Xiomera, and always fight for the glory of the Empire. And that is exactly what we will do."
