New Federal Program Designed to Both Manage Deer Population and Feed the Homeless
by Joe Mandela, Writer

The Maximusian government has just unveiled an initiative to both cull deer populations and feed the homeless.

The program, which was announced Thursday afternoon, is a nationwide initiative called "Hunters: for the homeless". The concept has reportedly been bounced around for years now but has only now been implemented.

The basic concept behind "Hunters: for the homeless" is to encourage deer hunting nationally by having the government offer to purchase meat from hunters. This meat would, in turn, be distributed to homeless shelters all around LOM in an effort to keep the homeless fed.

Deer populations, especially in suburban areas, are at an all time high and simply cannot be allowed to grow further. We needed an initiative to get people hunting. If people are guaranteed a paycheck for each buck they take down we should see more anymore. people hunting." told Casey Beck, a Department of the Interior coordinator, to Litudinem Herald during an interview yesterday. He went on to state that "the meat itself could really help a lot of people."

"Homelessness is, thankfully, at an all time low as of a 2019 study. Regardless, there will always be hungry mouths to feed and this initiative is a way to combat that." said Alicia Sanders, Secretary of the Interior, during the press conference where the initiative was unveiled.

Critics of the initiative have come from both sides of the isle. Many hardline conservatives find the program to be another ineffective welfare related initiative that is doomed to waste taxpayer dollars. Many liberals have expressed their displeasure in promoting more widespread weapons ownership (and invariable side effect of the program). This, many hold, will result in an increase of gun related crimes.

The Maximusian Department of the Interior states on their website that the program is "effective immediately". Hunters can already begin selling their deer meat.

Assassination attempt made on Emperor Topilpopoca's life
by Grahame Bentley, Chief Political Corespondent

Around 10:00 AM on the morning of the 9th, Topilpopoca, Emperor of Xiomera, was reportedly struck in the abdomen by an assassin's bullet.

Topilpopoca was reportedly waving to a small crowd of supporters when he as attacked and shot. It has not yet been made clear to what extent he was injured but it can be assumed the injury was severe. Some sources say he may have even been shot multiple times though this remains unconfirmed.

The Emperor was reportedly rushed to the Imperial Military Hospital in Tlālacuetztla following the attack and underwent surgery. His condition at this time is unknown. In his absence, the Chief Justice of Xiomera, Nopalliztli, is currently serving as acting Emperor of Xiomera.

We can report that the attack was carried out by a lone gunman who has been identified as Cētlalhui, the disgraced former Secretary of Justice of Xiomera. His motivations seem to be vengeance based. We can confirm that he is now in custody. Regardless, the Xiomeran security agency has launched an investigation into the attack to insure that it was, as they suspect, a lone gunman and not a coordinated attack.

Condolences have been sent by many IDU world leaders however, there has been no statement, official or unofficial, from LOM President, Lucas Brown. The reason for this is not known.

Wandering Albatross Officially Designated as Maximusian National Bird
by Alex Baranova, Writer

In a shockingly multi-partisan supported effort, the Wandering Albatross has been officially designated as the national bird of Libertas Omnium Maximus

This bill passed 22-8 on the 14th by the Vox Regionum. It had already been approved by the Vox Populi 198-27 on the 7th. This came as a shock to most as there had never been even talk of a national animal before this bill.

This bill establishes the wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) as the nation's national animal. It, and no other animal is to be used to represent the nation. What forms this may take has yet to be seen.

This bill will ban all forms of hunting the wandering albatross as the species is mildly endangered (a tier 3/7 on the Maximusian Wildlife Endangerment index).
