Lauchenoiria declines Xiomeran request again
Despite an attempt to negotiate a compromise with the government of Lauchenoiria, the two suspected terrorists who attacked the Xiomeran Embassy in Lauchenoiria will not be allowed to return to Xiomera to stand trial.
Officials with the Secretariat for International Affairs confirmed that Lauchenoirian Foreign Minister Sandra Pavía met with Xiomeran Ambassador to Lauchenoiria Chēmā this evening, only to once again decline the request to return the two wanted terrorists to Xiomera. This was despite Ambassador Chēmā informing the Lauchenoirians that the Xiomeran government was willing to waive the death penalty, the previous major sticking point in discussions, in order to secure the return of the terrorists to Xiomera for trial. This was also despite the two accused, Tlixō and Xōne, formally requesting to be allowed to return to Xiomera for trial and terminating their previous request to remain in Lauchenoiria.
“We have tried to be reasonable and address all the concerns that the Lauchenoirians had, but it is painfully clear that at this point there is no concession we could ever make that would result in cooperation on their part,” the Emperor said in his daily address to the nation. The Emperor also accused the Lauchenoirians of an “inherent bias” against Xiomerans, pointing out that Lauchenoiria, despite its declared principles, had honored requests from both Shuell and Sanctaria to deliver wanted individuals to them. “It is only Xiomera that they treat in this disrespectful manner, and it makes it quite impossible to cooperate with them.” The Emperor stopped short of taking any further official action in response to the latest snub from the Lauchenoirians, but did state that Xiomera “can no longer consider Lauchenoiria a friendly, or even neutral, nation, given the clearly disparate treatment that we receive from them compared to other nations.”
When asked to clarify whether or not he thought the Lauchenoirians’ stance was fair, the Emperor replied “Ask Peter Bloch or Jasmine Eddington how fair Lauchenoiria’s government is. Oh, wait.....you can’t ask either of them, now can you? I wonder why that is.”
In a related story, Secretariat of Justice officials have reported that the five Xiomeran citizens in Laeral who were wanted on a similar warrant have returned to Xiomera of their own accord, and will stand trial within a week. The five suspects arrived yesterday in the city of Huitzitaca, and have since been delivered to Lanhuapahua Detention Center in Tlālacuetztla. Their family members and associated suspected of colluding with them will be released “if it can be proven they had no ties to the crimes of their relatives who are accused,” a Secretariat of Justice spokesperson confirmed. Officials confirmed that there has been no apparent word concerning whether or not the four suspects remaining in Zamastan will return to Xiomera.
Latest Lauch warrant snub leads to boycott
After the Emperor’s address, the patriotic citizens’ groups managing the boycott of trade with Zamastan have reportedly added Lauchenoiria to their ongoing boycott. “Lauchenoirians are prejudiced against Xiomerans, and we should not be filling their pockets with our money,” Ilhuimixtli, Chairwoman of the Good Citizens’ League of Xiomera and the primary organizer of the boycott, said. On the GCL boycott website, a list of Lauchenoirian companies, goods and services has been added alongside the similar list of Zamastanian commerce posted when the boycott began. The GCL website also helpfully provides an alternative list of companies, goods and services provided by Xiomeran companies, and those of “neutral” countries, that patriotic Xiomeran citizens can refer to instead of patronizing Zamastanian or Lauchenoirian commerce.
Emperor to meet with Teyatia, Manauia activists
In order to appease concerns around the plan to develop Manauia Island, the Emperor has agreed to meet with Teyatia tribal leaders and with groups opposed to the development of the island.
The Emperor will hold a meeting with the Teyatia leaders, and representatives of environmental, scientific and cultural groups, in the city of Tezaltli on Manauia Island in two days. The meeting will give those opposed to the proposal to develop the island a chance to express their concerns and provide input.
“The Xiomeran government is unceasingly fair and will give all citizens a chance to provide their input to help shape this magnificent project,” Secretary of Infrastructure, Development and Planning Ueman, the organizer of the Manauia Island Project, said. “Together, we will build a better Manauia Island for the benefit of all its people and all Xiomerans.”
