Emperor praises Kerlile reform proposal
In his daily address to the nation, Emperor Topilpopoca praised a proposal for prison reform in Kerlile. The reform bill proposed by Councillor Carmen Robinson would make major changes to the Kerlian detention system. The most noteworthy include ending involuntary labor in prisons, shutting down all detention facilities in the Restricted Region permanently, and improving access to healthcare for prisoners.
In his remarks, the Emperor praised Councillor Robinson and President Rebecca Arnott for “making changes that will bring a more reasonable and humane system of detention to Kerlile”.
“Such decisions should show other nations in the region that Kerlile is serious about reform and deserves a chance to make up for its past,” the Emperor said. “It seems that many nations still have a negative impression about Kerlile without reference to current facts. That is unfortunate,” the Emperor added, noting that Xiomera is the only nation in the region to have made significant approaches to Kerlile since the Arnott government took power.
“If you want change, you have to engage - that is the simple fact. Ignoring nations that are trying to change for the better only convinces them that there is no point to change,” the Emperor said to conclude his remarks on the reforms, adding that “Xiomerans can relate to this problem all too well, given recent events concerning our nation” and would continue to positively engage with the government in Kerlile for that reason.
Stocks struggle on exchange due to trade dispute; businesses urge end
For the fifth straight day, the Tezmox Stock Exchange in Tlālacuetztla has reported losses due to the ongoing trade dispute involving the Empire. The Tezmox closed the day yesterday at 7,851.58, the fifth straight day of closing below 8000. This marks a record low for the year. Multiple major companies such as Coltec Automotive (CAC), Mizhua Corporation (MZA), Lohuā Licā Companies (LLA) and Matlate Technicar (MTC) have all noted steady drops due to uncertainty about trade.
