Emperor speaks for first time on trade dispute, anti-Xiomeran media
In his first public statement since the announcement that Zamastan had leveled sanctions against Xiomera and had since threatened to devalue its currency to punish Xiomera for having the temerity to expect to enforce its own laws, the Emperor flatly refused to even consider backing down.
"Xiomerans do not respond to threats," Topilpopoca declared to a large crowd gathered to hear him speak in Zalcatlhua Plaza in the center of Tlālacuetztla. "We did not ask for this. We did not start this. And we still have not even responded in kind - we have not leveled sanctions on Zamastan, nor made impertinent and imperialistic demands on their government, as they have to us. We have tried to actually be reasonable in this matter. But still, the threats and demands from Tofino continue. I say this very clearly to Anya Bishop, and to the government of Zamastan - Xiomerans will never bow to your arrogant demands. Xiomera is strong and will survive, no matter what sanctions you levy or currency manipulations you engage in or other dirty economic tricks you may try. If you will not trade with us, then begone, and good riddance. Others always will. And even if they don't, the industrious and inventive Xiomeran people will triumph. No matter what you do, Xiomera will prevail," the Emperor added, to thunderous applause.
While no formal announcement was made in the Emperor's speech, the Secretariat of Trade confirmed that unless Zamastan withdraws its recent tariffs on Xiomeran goods within ten days, reciprocal tariffs will be introduced on Zamastanian goods and products imported to Xiomera.
In a related matter, the Emperor dismissed the recent broadcast by the foreign-supported anti-Xiomeran media outlet HNN as "lies and insane conspiracy rantings by people who failed so badly in Xiomeran society that now they attack it like demented children, with foreign money in their pockets and foreign lies on their tongues." The Emperor responded to the recent HNN declaration that "the time is now" for political change in Xiomera by saying "the time is never for their treasonous garbage."
The Secretariat of Justice has formally lain treason charges upon the anti-Xiomeran traitors operating HNN for their agitation for political violence in Xiomera.
Government pledges to protect foreign nationals
In a sign of its benevolence, the Xiomeran Government pledged to protect Zamastanian nationals in Xiomera from coming to any harm as a result of the recent political and trade dispute caused by Zamastan.
"We are not animals. We will take all necessary steps to ensure that all Zamastanian nationals in Xiomera are protected from harm," Secretary of Security Tepilcayotl said, adding that Xiomeran law enforcement had been placed on around-the-clock alert to ensure that no further violence occurs and that Zamastanians in Xiomera can either remain in the country safely, or leave if desired. The Secretary further confirmed that if the Zamastanian government wished to evacuate any of their citizens from Xiomera, that they would be allowed to do so without hindrance.
While the earlier protests and attacks on Zamastanian-owned businesses have subsided in the wake of a firm police response, the boycott of Zamastanian goods and the refusal of transport workers to transport those goods or unload them from ships are reportedly continuing.
