"Good evening, and welcome to the XIN International News in English. Today is the 30th of July, 2019 (Atl 30, Xatl Tohtli, 2019). I'm Xōacaci, and here are the top news stories in Xiomera and the wider world of interest.
In Tlālacuetztla today, the incoming Secretary of Justice, Cuicanan, announced that charges have been brought against seventeen individuals accused of violating the Order of Media Review and the Order Preserving Social Harmony. The individuals are believed to be the masterminds behind the anti-Xiomeran "pirate" media outlet calling itself XUN. They were arrested on the 20th of July in a joint operation by the Nezahualpilli Municipal Police, Necatli Tribal Police and the Imperial Police. Here is what the new Secretary of Justice had to say about the arrests."
(The scene shifts to show Cuicanan, a blocky man with a shaved head, as he leans towards a microphone held by a XIN reporter; the light glints off of the Xiomeran flag on the lapel of his immaculate gray suit as he leans forward)
"As your new Secretary of Justice, Xiomerans, let me assure you that we will show zero tolerance for the machinations of those who would seek to destroy our social harmony or disrupt our great nation. For those who insist on manipulating the power of the media to spread lies and encourage dissent and unrest, the only future for them is in a jail cell. However, for those who genuinely repent for their crimes against Xiomeran society, and promise to commit no further acts of social violence, Xiomera is a forgiving and loving homeland. For those who are contemplating such acts here in Xiomera, please reconsider. Xiomera is our mother, our father, our homeland. One should seek to harm it no more than one would seek to harm one's own parents. And for those Xiomerans who have fled outside of Xiomera to commit such violence against our society, renounce your past acts and come home. Why condemn yourself to a life far away from home, never seeing your beloved homeland and your friends and loved ones ever again? Xiomera loves you and wants you to come back home, to become part of our great and happy society again. All can be forgiven, after appropriate repentance and repaying of dues to society. You can come home again; do not let your past destroy your future."
(The scene shifts back to the anchorwoman, Xōacaci, who flashes perfectly white teeth in a broad smile, tilting her head towards the camera.)
"That is a very generous offer from the new Secretary of Justice, and it sounds like those hiding abroad from the long arm of Xiomeran law would be wise indeed to take it. Now to the world of diplomacy. Secretary for International Affairs Huitzilhuani has announced that the Xiomeran government, in cooperation with several Xiomeran businesses, has decided to extend an offer of assistance to the nation of Lauchenoiria to help that country recover from its recent civil war. The plan would involve a combination of direct financial assistance, such as grants and loans, along with new business investment and commercial partnerships. The plan would focus on areas of Lauchenoiria most badly affected by the war, such as southern Lauchenoiria, with the goal of strengthening business ties between the two countries and helping speed up recovery and create local jobs. Secretary Huitzilhuani had this to say."
(Secretary Huitzilhuani appears on screen, her photogenic good looks making her recognizable quickly)
"Trade is the lifeblood of nations, and it is no secret that the best antidote to strife and unhappiness is prosperity. When your needs are all met, and your worries about survival eased, you can focus on the things that lead to happiness. We have seen that for ourselves in Xiomera. While we have had our disagreements with the government of Lauchenoiria recently, we have no quarrel with the Lauchenoirian people and no desire to see them suffer. It is our hope that our governments can move past our current issues and find a way to help the Lauchenoirian people together. We are prepared to send representatives to Lauchenoiria to discuss our proposal with their government at their convenience."
(The anchorwoman returns to the screen)
"Secretary Huitzilhuani added that in addition to the offer extended to Lauchenoiria, her Secretariat, at the Emperor's direction, will seek to pursue closer ties with nations such as Shuell, Gonhog and Kerlile, who have similarities to Xiomera. Such a potential coalition could represent a new era in the affairs of the region, she said, adding that the Secretariat has already made a formal approach to Kerlile and will now do the same for Shuell and Gonhog. The government has reportedly sent representatives to those two nations, hoping to begin establishing formal ties.
Now to the world of sports. In a shock announcement, it was confirmed today that Xiomera will not be participating in the upcoming IDU Olympics. The government has forbidden Xiomeran participation, on the grounds that certain governments have recently shown Xiomera disrespect on the international stage. Secretary of Culture and Preservation of Xiomeran Values Maxtla, whose Secretariat handles matters concerning Xiomeran national athletics, had this to say."
(The scene shifts to the home of Xiomeran National Athletics, the massive Stadium of September 1850 in downtown Tlālacuetztla, named in honor of the date when the Empress Camaxtica defeated the final resistance to her reign. Maxtla, a powerfully built woman with her hair in a bun and a decidedly unamused expression, is speaking to a XIN reporter as if each word is causing her physical pain)
"Due to the disrespectful actions of certain governments towards the government and people of Xiomera, it is not possible for us to participate in an event with those nations that supposedly embodies fellowship and mutual respect in competition. Therefore, by order of the Emperor, Xiomera will not be sending any athletes to the IDU Olympics. That is all I have to say. No questions."
(Maxtla abruptly turns and walks inside the Stadium, and the scene shifts back to the anchorwoman)
"It is unfortunate that Xiomera will not be participating in the IDU Olympics, but a justifiable position by the Emperor considering the grave insult dealt to our country in recent events. That's the international news for this hour. Please stay tuned for local and regional news, and weather at 45 after the hour."
(title scrolls and the anthem plays again)
