Sakzi Leads 2020 Candidates by 21 Points, Followed by Blackwater, Bishop, and Gunn

Speaker Foley Sakzi (BCP) is hanging on to the top spot in the 2020 primary field, leading his nearest rival, Leader Cain Blackwater (GLP) by 21 points, according to a Tofino Times poll released Wednesday.

Sakzi notched 53 percent support among likely conservative primary voters in the poll, while President Bishop finished in second place with 17 percent. In first for liberals was Cain Blackwater, who took 32 percent support in the survey. Rounding out the four candidates was Sen. Euan Gunn with 11 percent. The poll is the latest showing some shuffling in the voting field. Blackwater has held the second-place spot behind Sakzi in most public surveys for weeks, but some recent polls have shown Gunn nudging past him.

The poll surveyed 1,500 people, including 1,140 registered voters, in web-based interviews from July 7-9. It has a margin of error of 2.6 percent for the entire sample and 3 percent for registered voters.

The polling data spells further dismay for President Anya Bishop, who has steadily declined in approval rating and her re-election polling numbers since Speaker Sakzi announced his candidacy and called out differences with the President, who is a member of his party.

Gladysynthian Government: "Zamastan's claims for war reparations should be resolved by int'l court"

The Gladysynthian government rejected Zamastan's claims for Tariel War reparations, saying that they lacked "clear argumentation".

"The position of the Gladysynthia government is justifiable under international law, but by no means mandatory," said the report, which was commissioned by the LaFlaunce administration. The Gladysynthian experts suggested that a decision by an IDU Court of Justice in a neutral state such as Laeral or United New England would create legal clarity over Zamastan's claim to reparations.

However, the experts noted that the Gladysynthian government had to voluntarily agree to such a procedure because the dispute dated back more than 45 years. In April 2019, the Gladysynthian parliament decided to assert its claim for reparations from Gladysynthia, which it estimated were as high as 40 billion Zamastanian dollars, according to the official report. A "verbal note" by the Zamastanian government containing the official request to negotiate reparations has subsequently been submitted to the Gladysyntian government.

The Tariel War began on September 24th, 1970, when Gladysynthian forces crossed the Danaska River and seized portions of the Tariel Heights, and ended after 32 days of fighting on October 25th when Zamastanian forces pushed them back over the river. Zamastan suffered heavy casualties in the first week of fighting, including airstrikes which killed hundreds of civilians in border towns and the city of Providence. Gladysynthian forces also reportedly committed numerous war-crimes by using chemical weapons on Zamastanian soldiers, resulting in dozens of deaths and thousands of life-long injuries. Every President since Marvin Gaviria has appealed for reparations, but each administration has failed to recieve the Z$ 40 billion.
