Cautious praise for recent regional leadership changes

In brief letters to the newly selected leaders of both nations, Huey Tlatoani Topilpopoca, the Great Council of Xiomera and the ilhuilihuitl and ihuicatl of Xiomera formally congratulated incoming President of Kerlile Rebecca Arnott and incoming President of Lauchenoiria Alex Marwick on their assumption of executive authority in their respective nations.
The phrase “assumption of executive authority” was explicitly used to avoid the word “election” - a word that, in Xiomera at least, is fraught with the scent of unwanted rabble-rousing against the system of government mandated by the Xiuhtonal which has served the Huenyan Empire well for centuries. While the Emperor and his great and trusted advisors and cabinet members saw fit to welcome their new colleagues in the realm of national leaders, that welcome is naturally conveyed with certain expectations by the Palace of Flowers and the Obsidian Throne.
In the case of Kerlile, while the Huenyan Empire no doubt welcomes the emergence of a more logical system of leadership in that matriarchal land, it remains to be seen just how far the new leader Arnott will be able to take them. Systems of leadership that elevate one characteristic (such as gender) above all others as the sole criterion for leadership merit have always been viewed with extreme skepticism by Xiomerans. It is not even the fact that a specific gender was elevated above others. Women have not suffered from the strange curse of being held back by men in Xiomera, as they oddly are in other countries, ever since the esteemed and honored Empress Camaxtica definitively showed all Xiomerans, for all time, just what a woman could do. Xiomerans understand why Kerlile’s rulers felt the need to elevate women in a world where that gender is so often not elevated. But the matriarchal system of that land has always rubbed Xiomerans, who believe in merit above all else, the wrong way to an extent. Tlālacuetztla will undoubtedly hope that a new leadership in Kerlile will move that nation more towards a system of governance in which merit, rather than one’s gender, determines who rules and who has rights, just as it is in Xiomera.
In the case of Lauchenoiria, there will undoubtedly be quite a bit of skepticism of the government of incoming President Marwick. A major cause of Marwick’s has been the advancement of democracy - and we have no desire to see that advance one bit in Xiomera, thank you very much. However, Marwick’s pledges to increase trade with other countries no doubt will raise hope in the corridors of the palace. Increasing foreign trade is the signature goal of the Emperor’s current term. If Lauchenoiria can keep its quest to promote democracy within its own borders, and keep their relations with us strictly to trade, there is potential for a bright future in relations between the two nations. However, it must always be remembered that the Huenyan Empire of Xiomera will never sell its values or its sovereignty for a few cheap quetzals.
Only time will tell if the recent changes of leadership in these nations will bring about closer ties. The doors of the Palace of Flowers, and of Xiomera, will undoubtedly be open to such ties, as long as respect for Xiomera is maintained by those who step across the threshold.
Push to remove Tlatoani Chicaliztli begins
Nezahualpilli - A group of Necatli leaders dissatisfied with the refusal of Tlatoani Chicaliztli to embrace recent Imperial trade initiatives for the Necatli tribal domain have begun a push to convene the ihuicatl of Necatli early and remove the Tlatoani from power.
The normal cycle of assessment and appointment of leaders is not due for another two years, but some Necatli are upset that the leader of the Necatli has vowed to resist the trade and development initiatives planned for the region. “We are the poorest and most backwards region in Xiomera, and it’s precisely because of the stubborn resistance to change that is embodied in Chicaliztli. Every other part of Huenya has advanced, and it’s time we did the same,” Noxochicotzin, the Mayor of the Necatli capital Nezahualpilli, said in announcing his intent to try to convince the ihuicatl to remove Chicaliztli.
For his part, Tlatoani Chicaliztli described the nascent effort to remove him from office as a “plot fueled by those all too willing to sell Necatli land and traditions cheaply, as servants and traitors often do”. Tlatoani Chicaliztli also accused Xiomeran business interests and even the Emperor as being behind the sudden push to remove him from office, a statement that Huey Tlatoani Topilpopoca dismissed as “too absurd to make sense even if one is drunk”.
“His mismanagement of his role, and his mismanagement of Necatli, are the reason his tribe are seeking to remove him. That is the only reason. But it is reason enough,” the Emperor said, refusing to discuss “insane conspiracy theories” any further.
