Restaurant in Usera fined after ‘banning’ communists from the premises
12th June 2019
Ten Toes Restaurant in Usera has been fined 500,000 Gold Cookies after being sued by a couple denied service in the restaurant because they were wearing Communist Party badges. In an incident which took place in November, the couple were told, upon arrival at Ten Toes, that communists were ‘banned’ from the restaurant and turned away.
A court in Usera heard from Joe and Teresa Loop, who had booked a table for a party and were ‘distraught’ at the disruption to their plans. The owners, Kathleen Young and Cristopher Talbot of the restaurant argued that it was their right to deny service to the couple, as communists caused Mr Talbot to become ‘distressed’ and caused him undue suffering. Mr Talbot was imprisoned during last year’s civil war by the Chaher regime, which was propped up by the Communist Party.
Under Lauchenoirian law it is illegal to discriminate against customers because of their race, gender, religion, disability status and other characteristics – however the law does not explicitly state whether this protection extends to discrimination on the basis of political opinions or memberships.
The court ruled today that anti-discrimination protections do extend to political affiliations in this circumstance, and that Ten Toes was in violation of the law when refusing service to Mr and Mrs Loop because of their political affiliations. This verdict comes as an increasing number of businesses across Lauchenoiria have been openly hostile to communists – businesses which will now have to be careful not to violate anti-discrimination laws.
Ms Young said of the verdict: “my partner Cristopher was severely mistreated when in the custody of the communist regime. They allowed Kerlian soldiers to interrogate him, and he has PTSD as a result. Requiring us to serve people who supported such a regime is cruel, and detrimental to his mental health. We will be appealing this verdict.”
Communist Party presidential candidate Ruben Page commented on the verdict, saying: “Pleased to see the courts agree – discriminating against communists is wrong, and should be illegal across all of Lauchenoiria! We want equality for Lauchenoirian citizens – the capitalism experiment has failed. Lauchenoirians are starving as a result of this failed system. Only communism will allow Lauchenoiria to thrive!”
