Lauchenoirian Democratic Alliance hold rally attended by 5,000 in Buttercity
5th June 2019

A rally by the newest political party in Lauchenoiria, the Lauchenoirian Democratic Alliance (LDA), this evening in Buttercity was attended by 5,000 – a much greater number than predicted. The LDA are a classically liberal political party, supporting civil liberties and economic freedom. The party was founded following the war by Alex Marwick, their current presidential candidate.

Marwick was known amongst supporters of the Lauchenoirian Resistance during last year’s civil war as the man behind a series of popular anti-communist broadcasts, which had been outlawed by the Chaher-Clarke regime. At the end of the war, he founded the LDA, claiming the Liberal Party had ‘betrayed’ the people by getting involved in the war in the first place, which led to many deaths and the destruction of large parts of southern Lauchenoiria.

At today’s rally, Marwick addressed the crowd, promising a ‘new Lauchenoiria’ if his party is elected. He listed a number of policies – including speeding up the transition to a fully capitalist economy and ensuring a clean split from any remnants of the old communist regime. He promised increased protections for LGBT+ citizens from discrimination, and assured voters that his party would make another war unlikely.

He also addressed the war in his speech – and made several comments regarding controversial former Prime Minister Laura Moore.

“Laura Moore is well-meaning, and I believe her actions during the war were taken because of her desire to help protect the people of Lauchenoiria. That said, she was misguided, and in the end possibly did more hurt than good. The war should never have been allowed to happen, and we must ensure something similar never happens again.”

Marwick is expected to compete for votes among Lauchenoirians in the centre with Liberal presidential candidate Nina Pond, who was Laura Moore’s health secretary before the war. The LDA are currently in 7th place in opinion polls, and are on track to win 8 seats in the federal parliament.
