IDUFC Final: United New England v. Gnejs
After taking in a field of 16 teams to compete in the 2018 IDU Football Championships, only two contenders for the IDU Cup remain. United New England shattered expectations by dominating their group and the playoff rounds, defeating Slokais and Verwood to advance to the final. With a strong, blisteringly fast midfield, New England has been able to dominate its previous opponents, but has had a lower ball possession rate than Gnejs throughout the playoffs.

After narrowly scraping past the semifinal against Shuell, Gnejs now advances to the final. With a stout but no-thrills style of play centered on defense, the Dandelions play cautiously and conservatively. Their defense is near-impregnable, but their offense is uncertain, especially against the Novanglian midfield. Gnejs only narrowly outlasted Shuell, which defeated Verwood 2-1 in the third-place match.

Both teams took to the field at the Stade Internationale Laeralien to applause and cheering. United New England won the coinflip and started with possession. The Novanglians dominated possession early on, with midfielder Daniel Goldberg driving quickly up the left at the 18th minute in a headlong rush that was stopped by defender Stefan Kjeller. While the Gnejsians often took possession of the ball, they were seemingly unable to bring it forward to their strikers, with New England's midfielders, led by Miguel Ferrera-Mendez outclassing the Gnejsian midfield. At 42 minutes, Novanglian striker Luc Martel was within the goal box and attempting to pass to left winger Qalanjo Timir when he was slide-tackled by Gnejsian defender Simon Thirlwell. The referee awarded Martel a penalty kick, which was saved by goalkeeper Kjetil Åkervik.

After the half, the same pattern of play continued, with United New England's dynamic midfield and offense being constantly thwarted by the Gnejsian defense. At 59 minutes, striker Luc Martel launched another blisteringly-fast attack, only for Gnejsian midfielder Nicolai Lennartson to steal possession and move downfield. Gnejsian striker Omar Lillestrøm, who had been waiting for just such an opportunity, received a pass from Lennartson to make a shot on goal, past the started Novanglian defenders. By the time goalkeeper Kofi Adomako turned at the incoming ball, it had already gone into the back of the net, bringing the score to 1-0 Gnejs.

Satisfied with their goal, Gnejs doubled down on its defense. Although United New England was able to probe its defenses several times, with striker Jonathan O'Shea managing a shot on goal that was saved by the goalkeeper, UNE was ultimately unable to bring the ball past the Dandelions' defense. The whistle blew at 92 minutes with the score remaining stubbornly at 1-0, Gnejs. Gnejs was declared the winner the 2018 IDU Football Championships, and was awarded the IDU Cup, being the first champions of the revived IDUFC.
