Noguera urges Lauchenoirians: do not travel to Kerlile.
16th April 2019

Following an announcement by the Council of Kerlile that the totalitarian matriarchy would be easing restrictions on tourists, interim Prime Minister Keitha Noguera has expressed doubt in Kerlile’s motivations, and has urged Lauchenoirians to refrain from visiting their northern neighbour.

“Kerlile is known for arresting tourists for minor crimes, and we have no proof this will change. Travelling to Kerlile is dangerous, and the advice of the government remains to avoid all travel to Kerlile under any circumstances,” Noguera told the Lauchenoirian Guardian.

While Lauchenoirian citizens are not forbidden from visiting Kerlile, it is greatly discouraged, and any Lauchenoirian travelling to the Matriarchy is urged to register with the Lauchenoirian embassy. Foreigners arrested in Kerlile are often denied consular assistance or a lawyer until 2-14 days after their initial arrest.

In 2010, three Lauchenoirian students visiting Kerlile were arrested for spreading “patriarchal propaganda” to Kerlian citizens after they had conversations with Kerlians in which they criticised the Kerlian government. All three women remain in Kerlian custody, serving a 20-year sentence. Attempts by the Lauchenoirian government to have the students returned were unsuccessful. The Kerlians claim the trio were attempting to encourage insurrection.

Leader of the Feminist Party, Katherine Wright, however, stated: “In spite of the propaganda put out by Noguera’s government, and Moore’s before the war, many Lauchenoirians travel to Kerlile without incident. The announcement by Councillor Georgiou is a welcome one, as the lifting of the gender restriction means even more people can now see for themselves that Kerlile is not the nightmare our government wants us to believe.”

During the civil war, a number of Lauchenoirian citizens were forcibly taken to Kerlile as prisoners of war, and released shortly after the signing of the Haven Accords. Many of those returned reported torture and mistreatment. A number of prisoners died as a result of being denied necessary medical attention, and some were executed.

In 2017, 234 Lauchenoirian citizens visited Kerlile. Three were arrested, but later released without charge. Lauchenoirian citizens were forbidden from travelling to Kerlile by the Kerlian government for the purposes of tourism between May and November 2018, as a result of the war. No Lauchenoirians have been arrested in Kerlile since the conclusion of the war.
