First Brinkley-Class Destroyer begins maiden voyage
by Joe Mandela, Writer

After numerous budget related set-backs, the first ever Brinkley-Class destroyer war ship, which was formerly unveiled Thursday, has just last evening set sail from Iustitia Naval Base and Shipyards. The ship, christened the MSS Astra, is set to relive the MSS L. Harden from its defensive post in the Strait of St. Paul.

The new vessel will easily outmaneuver and outgun any Bjeorg vessels that may attempt to threaten the security of the West-Coast of Libertas Omnium Maximus. The Astra will ultimately be accompanied by a sister-ship, the MSS Luna, which is still being constructed.

While the state-department has classified the disputed territory of Bjeorg as "Inactive but Hostile," many of the Brinkley Class's advocates cited the reason for new ships as being both a show of strength and a good insurance policy. One such proponent went as far as to say that the creation of these new vessels were: "Excessive but essential to the preservation of peace in Central Hespia.

One member of the Vox Regionum, Jane Powell (PCP-O) who openly opposed the new class, calls it "...a hideous monster built to destroy both our budget and our shaky-but-tangible diplomatic ties with Bjeorg." Unfortunately for the Navy, she is not alone. Recently, 10,000+ have signed a recent petition asking the government to reduce military spending.

President Brown responded to this petition yesterday saying, "When the war stops coming, we will stop spending money on our military. Until them, we are going to keep building up enough of a deterrent so that not even the most insane leader would pick a fight with us! Nations that are a pushover militarily will be taken advantage of. We are no such nation. We are not idealists, we are realists! We see the threat and we prepare as best we can. This new Destroyer is yet another reason not to pick on us: We Bite!"

Vox Regionum Senator's push for Easter Sunday to be a National Holiday results in first Senate fight since 1976
by Grahame Bentley, Political Corespondent

Senator Micheal Taylor (NCU-O) suggested during Friday's Vox Regionum session that Easter Sunday become a National Holiday. Somehow, the debate became so heated that several punches were thrown.

Taylor reportedly became exasperated after his idea was heavily refuted and stated in closing, "Come on! Nearly 70% of Maximusians celebrate Easter, The economic impact and implications will be negligible according to studies. Why shouldn't it be a Federal Holiday?! He was responded to be Senator and nihilist, Alex Suarez (PCP-O), who told him "The other 30%, including myself, couldn't give two sh*ts about your God or your holiday."

Sources say Taylor slowly approached Suarez and punched him in the face. Suarez willingly fought back and landed several blows on Taylor's torso until the pair were pulled apart by chamber security. Both senators have issued formal apologies.

Taylor sent out a social media update the next day saying, "That was certainly no way to behave for me. I am deeply sorry to my fellow senators and the general public, who put their faith in me to carry out my duties in a respectful and orderly fashion. I have let you down. My actions were inexcusable and I will not let that happen again."

Suarez followed suit saying, "I certainly regret what I said and did [on Friday]. It was unbecoming of me to say the very least. Debate built this nation, respectful debate that is, not what I did. That wasn't right.

This event is the first recorded physical altercation in the Senate Chambers since the famed Senate Brawl of 1976
. It is also, thankfully, the shortest physical altercation to ever take place in the Vox Regionum.

Taylor has agreed to hand the reins of his proposed bill over to an undecided fellow Christian Union Senator while he handles the political fallout of his actions. It is doubtful, however, that the bill, should it come into being, will gain much traction with the Christian Union holding only 4 seats in the Vox Regionum.

Litudinem County begins river cleanup of Lyn River
by Jack Arnold, Writer

The Lyn river, which cuts through the very heart of Litudinem City, has been considered to be highly polluted for some time. In fact, it has been classified as "toxic" by the Federal River and Stream Conservation Administration since 1997. Now efforts are finally being made to cleanup the river.

In the spring of 2016, a petition was taken to the Litudinem County Board of Health demanding that the river be cleaned as it posed "health risks to the general public of Litudinem City and County" along with a detrimental impact on the river's native wildlife. The petition cited rising recorded cases of Cholera, Typhoid and other water-borne diseases, especially in individuals living near the river as their main reason for taking forth the petition.

That summer, the County Board worked with a non-profit agency to devise a working plan for cleaning up the river and keeping it clean. The board decided on upgrading the city's primary sewage treatment plant (in order to reduce waste that entered the river), installing new policies to minimize trash dumping(directed primarily at industries), and stocking the river to encourage bio-diversity after the cleanup makes headway. This plan is now taking effect with contractors having started work on the sewage plant last Monday and with the policies taking effect later this coming week.

In a press release, Angela Johnson, Litudinem City Mayor told said, "Together, we will make the Lyn river the clean and majestic waterway it once was. However, we can't do it alone. We need every citizen of Litudinem County to follow all of our new policies to insure a brighter future!"
