Delegate Election April 2012
#1

So I've thrown my name into the hat for the delegacy of the IDU. Why should you vote for me?

Experience

I've previously served as Delegate of the region Corporate, though that was before its decline. I will discuss my duties in a later section.

I've also previously served as an Associate Justice in the Eastern Islands of Dharma. Here I was responsible to guarding the constitution and ensuring any legislation passed did not contradict it. We heard arguments for and against the case, and decided the outcome based on our own readings, and the arguments put forward. This has helped me greatly, as it added to my ability to read WA proposal and spot any flaw, loophole, or damaging consequence it may have.

World Assembly Regular

As some of you may be aware, I'm a regular in the World Assembly forums and, embarrassingly enough, am seen by some in the forum as a "senior Ambassador" due to my constant presence, influence, and ability in debate. If elected Delegate, I will continue to have this presence and effect, and will always relay any concerns you may have to proposal authors before they are submitted. This not only ensures that legislation has been properly vetted, but it also emphasises your say before the legislation comes to the floor, thereby giving your opinions greater chance that they will be considered by the author.

Also due to my being a World Assembly regular, I have authored some resolutions, namely #GA109 (Rights of the Orphaned Child), GA#133 (Repeal "Missing Minors Act), and #GA176 (Disability Welfare Act). I also have recently submitted another proposal, Regarding Travel, which I have been working on for over a year and I am hopeful that it will pass.

My regular presence in the World Assembly ensures that, if elected, the residents of the IDU will continue to have a powerful say in the drafting of legislation, continuing from the presence of the current Delegate, Bears Armed.

My Duties as Delegate

As previously said, I already have a great deal of experience having served as a Delegate in Corporate. While Delegate, my vote was always the region's vote. The WA members dictated how I voted, and I was happy for this to happen.

The way I originally operated was that members would post their FOR or AGAINST votes on the RMB and I voted according to the majority. However, if elected as Delegate of the IDU, I would change my modus operandi slightly.

I would have two options in deciding how to vote according to the region's wishes. For the first option, it would be necessary for all WA members who wanted their vote to count towards how I vote to endorse me. I would then go to each of my endorsers page and see how they voted, according to their National Happenings. I would then vote according to the majority.

Alternatively, I would make use of the API and the following tool:

http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/api....n&q=gavote
http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/api....n&q=scvote

As you can see, it clearly tells me how each WA member within the region votes. This would allow me to more easily judge how members vote and see where the majority lies. I will tally the regional vote sometime during the 3rd day of voting, probably around the minor update.

When it comes to approving proposals, I would use my discretion, however any proposal submitted by an IDU member will receive my approval! Similarly, my approach to stacking would be similar; until the time I tally the regional vote (which I will always do), I may, using discretion, vote early to stack a resolution, to ensure a favourable outcome. It is unlikely that I would do this often, and most likely only when the resolution is authored by an IDU member.

Other Aims

If elected, there are other things, not necessarily WA related, that I would hope to use my position to achieve. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and if anyone has any other suggestions as to how I could foster regional activity if elected Delegate, I'd be more than delighted to hear them!

I would like to try and get RP going again in the region. Regional RPs, i.e. those done on this forum, and NS RPs, i.e. those done on the NS forum, would be a priority of mine and I would like to get at least 2 fairly good RPs done before my term in office would be up.

I'd also like see the IDU Council more active and, if possible, act as a sort of regional SC, passing commends and condemns of other nations, be they in the region or not.

So this has been my pitch. I hope you vote for me over the next week! I promise I would do the region proud as Delegate.
