The Golden Tiger Awards 2006

*dramatic entry*
*even more dramtic voice*
Dear fellow IDU members, it is time to chose the nominees for the 2006 Golden Tiger Awards in the category Best Foreign Movie again.

Therefore, I ask you to nominate a movie from your national film industry for said award until, let's say, September 24th.
Obligatory information are the title of the movie, the director and a plot synopsis, but additional information such as actors, background, etc. are of course welcome.

Unlike last year, I'll not let chance decide the winner, but a comittee of respectable movie industry veterans, who will decide it in a fun poll! Yay!

Everyone agreeing?

(I personally will not enter a movie, because, well it's the foreign category, and Baranxtuans tend to be not very objective Wink )

''The Bad News Bears: Running The Roads!"

A drama-documentary about one of Bears Armed's largest & most notorious biker gangs.

Director: Raggurr o Westwood
Runtime: 210 minutes (but designed to be shown in 3 parts @ 60, 90, 60)
Language: Ursine, with subtitles* (for the version sent abroad) in English.
Plot Synopsis: Tells the tale of an eightday in the lives of a troop from the 'Bad News Bears', and how their actions during that time affect outsiders... There's a romantic/tragic subplot featuring a biker girl (simply called 'the Girl', played by an actress named 'Urrsula Black' whom I forecast we'll see much more of in future) and a schoolteacher who's drawn into joining the gang so that he can be closer to her...

(OOC: but there are some laughably bad translations involved, such as when one biker's reference to his modified motorcycle as "a chopped hog" is given as "a spam" Wink : Have any of you seen many subtitled Hong Kong action movies?)

The Perils of Persephone
Directed by Algernon Muffin

Beautiful and innocent young dwarven maid, Persephone Potts, is kidnapped in broad daylight as she trudges home from her job as an underpaid but commendably industrious sales clerk at Frumpnick's Fine Mustard and Knitting Supplies. Her captor is the dastardly villain, Snidely Slugg, whose eleven prior victims had been found wandering aimlessly in garbage-strewn alleyways, babbling incoherently.

The wretched young maiden soon finds herself tied to a chair in the dank and dreary basement of Slugg's once-impressive but now sadly decayed hilltop mansion. Days turns into seeming centuries in the poor victim's mind as she is subjected to the cruelest of fiendish tortures: Slugg paces and postures before her, time and again, mouthing interminable monologues about jelly donuts.

Finally, drawing together the last shreds of her sanity, our disconsolate but dauntless heroine manages the Herculean feat of bursting the ropes which bind her wrists and ankles. She leaps to her feet, head-butts the villain in his unmentionable anatomical features, and races upstairs and out the front door into the bright sunlight of a summer's afternoon.

Starring the gorgeous dwarven starlet, Vidalia Dunkdorfer, as Persephone and noted Stolidian character actor, Jeremy Weems, as Snidely. Featuring Twinkles the aardvark.

Running time: 311 minutes, 8 seconds.

Rated R for excessive psychological violence.

Released by the Stolidia Motion Picture Company

Actually, it was just a walk-on. But since aardvarks are very sensitive about things like credits, the producer decided to give him/her/it a "featuring" spot.
