Laeral's official vote for the 2017 IDU Film Festival will be allotted by a majority vote of twelve judges. The five most notable of the twelve judges, all Laeralian citizens, are labeled below:
Sabine Auconie, the current Laeralian Minister of Culture. Her role is to promote culture and the arts within Laeral, to oversee the allocation of government cultural subsidies, and to promote Laeralian culture and values abroad. She is in the latter role tonight, and she hopes to make audiences throughout the IDU aware of Laeralian cinema.
Lai Pei-shan is the current Vice Minister for Cinema, a position within the Ministry of Culture. She is responsible for overseeing Laeralian filmmaking, and is in fact extremely important within the world of Laeralian filmmaking. She controls the flow of government subsidies to filmmaking, and was one of the reasons that Brushstrokes received its government funding.
Lionel Sermier is the famously irritable and difficult to please columnist for Le Monde Laeralien, a popular weekly magazine. His film column is widely read, although often disregarded by audiences.
Jean-Claude Kuo is a former director and a member of the Laeralian Society of Filmmakers.
Huang Chi-hao is another member of the Laeralian Society of Filmmakers.
The remaining judges are members of the Laeralian Society of Filmmakers or minor members of the Ministry of Culture.

None of the judges were directly involved with any of the Laeralian entries. Having viewed screenings of all the films over the past few days, they have now returned to a room within the 'Hotel Exodus' to discuss their picks...

Mme Auconie: We've all signed to confidentiality waivers, and we've all been sworn to impartiality. So, let's go category by category. Best IDU Film?

M. Sermier: My vote goes to Brushstrokes.

M. Kuo: Of course it does. I was personally intrigued by The Golden Mirror, but I found Damnation Creek interesting as well.

Mme Auconie: I see. M. Huang?

M. Huang: I liked The Golden Mirror and Stalingrad.

Mme Auconie: And Mme. Lai?

Mme. Lai: The Economics of Love. It featured a real insight into Lauchenoirian culture and history, as well as good cinematography.

M. Kuo: I do find it interesting that there are so many nations which are relatively new to the filmmaking world with such strong entries. RMG, Legionas, and Lauchenoiria have never been at a Film Festival before. I wasn't expecting such strong contenders from them.

Mme. Auconie: It seems we will have to go to voting procedure, then. Remember, all votes will be anonymous.

She distributes some simple ballots and pens to each delegate, with the logo of the Ministry of Culture on them.

Mme. Auconie: Please have your ballot ready when we meet back here in ten minutes.

When the delegates return, the votes are as follows:
The Economics of Love: 5
The Golden Mirror: 2
Damnation Creek: 2
Brushstrokes: 2
Stalingrad: 1

Mme. Auconie: It seems that The Economics of Love has the highest number of votes. Motion to adopt it as the Laeralian delegation's vote for 'Best New IDU Film'?

The motion passes, 7-5.

Mme. Auconie: Very well then. The Economics of Love, from [nation]Lauchenoiria[/nation], will be our vote.

The following votes proceed more quickly. The vote for Best Actor/Actress in an IDU Film goes as follows:
Barrwen ?Evenstar? vah-Bearren: 7
Aurelie Liao: 4
Melisa McDade: 1

Classics of the IDU
Snowfall: 4
Come Home: 4
The Silent Heroes: 3
Bearren and Lursienne: 1

The voting proceeds into a second round, where Bearren and Lursienne has been eliminated as it garnered the fewest votes in the first round.

Snowfall: 5
Come Home: 4
The Silent Heroes: 3

Final Results
Best New IDU Film: The Economics of Love, by [nation]Lauchenoiria[/nation]
Best Actor/Actress in an IDU Film: Barrwen ?Evenstar? vah-Bearren, from [nation]Bears Armed[/nation]
Classic IDU Film: Snowfall, from [nation]Skoden[/nation]
Best Foreign Film: Discovery, from [nation]Forodwaith[/nation]

Like the majority of her country people Angelique Deveraux was tanned, healthy and vibrant.

The entries for this years film festival were impressive and her fellow judges had had spent some considerable time in debate as to who the VIA Film Association would vote for. Still they?d reached their conclusions and and blinking once she generated a virtual screen to appear over the desk in front of her.

At first she wasn?t sure if her device would establish a connection with the local network - moments later however she saw they were indeed online.

Reaching out with a manicured hand she typed rapidly.

Best new film:Seaside
Best actor: Aurelie Liao
Best classic film: Tops & Tips
Best foreign film: Discovery

She briefly considered the ruling imposed by the film association that prohibited VIA from voting for itself then smiling committed the entries to cyberspace.

Closing the screen with a blink she retrieved a cell phone. ?I?ll need a taxi to the airport - the meeting in Laeralsford has been moved forward to nineteen hundred?.

Lauchenoiria's five judges assemble in a meeting room in the hotel. The judges are:

Matthew Cartwright - Lauchenoirian Minister for Culture and the Arts
Jane Anderson - renowned Lauchenoirian film critic
Valeria Gonzalez - film columnist for a popular Spanish-language arts magazine in Lauchenoiria
Helena Garcia - chair of Buttercity Film Society
Adam Cannon - directed many Lauchenoirian films, however was not involved with The Economics of Love.

After beginning the meeting with standard greetings and small talk, the judges get down to business.

Cartwright: First order of business - Best New IDU Film. First of all, I'd like to remind everyone that we agreed we would not vote for The Economics of Love, in the interests of fairness. Is everyone agreed?

They all nod in assent. Cartwright hands out ballots and after a brief discussion they are filled in and collected.

The votes are as follows:
Brushstrokes, by [nation]Laeral[/nation] - 3
Seaside, by [nation]Gnejs[/nation] - 1
The Golden Mirror, by [nation]Russian Mafia Government[/nation] - 1

The process is repeated for Best Actor/Actress, in which Barrwen 'Evenstar' vah-Bearren from [nation]Bears Armed[/nation] wins.

They break for coffee, then return.

They vote on the Classic Film:
Come Home, by [nation]Russian Mafia Government[/nation] - 3
Snowfall, by [nation]Skoden[/nation] - 2

Garcia: It's disappointing there was only one entry in the foreign film category.
Gonzalez: Yes, hopefully next year there will be more competition.

Final Results:
Best New IDU Film: Brushstrokes, by [nation]Laeral[/nation]
Best Actor/Actress: Barrwen 'Evenstar' vah-Bearren, from [nation]Bears Armed[/nation]
Classic Film: Come Home, by [nation]Russian Mafia Government[/nation]

The RMG Judges this year were very pleased with the submissions chosen but would like to make clear as to why they wanted who for the winner.

1) Story. The judges felt that this time, while the cinematography was stunningly gorgeous, most of these movies lacked logic and story continuity, and our judges felt that story was one of their top priority categories. RMG Cinema thrives on telling adventure tales, rich with story, and when the movies lacked it, the judges took away points.

For example; Seaside was fantastically made visually, but some choices story related were questionable. "Upon waking up, Bjornar finds Audun missing. He receives a phone call from his daughter, Ann, who tells him that Audun is leaving her, due to him finding out that she is pregnant;" was a quote the judges used when they explained why they didn't quite feel like logic was 100% utilized when creating this scene. Without any further explanation in the film, the judges were curious why a woman would leave a husband while pregnant, and what problems in their relationship lead to this, and because of no sufficient backstory related to severe relationship problems provided them with detail as to why she made this decision, they took off points. Also when Bjornar thought of the sea, the judges were still curious why he thought of that sea.

Another example was "Rob Schneider is a Carrot". While the judges loved the humor, and laughed quite a bit, due to the quick introduction of detail, and lack of connection or logic between details, they took off points.

Because of story being a huge factor in deciding who won, the RMG Judges have agreed to vote these two films for Best New IDU Film, and Best IDU Classic Film.

For Best New IDU Film, Judges chose
The Economics of Love, by [nation]Lauchenoiria[/nation]

The way the story was concise and clear appealed to the judges. The beautiful cinematography and stunning soundtrack give this movie a total of 86 out of 100 possible, beating every other submission.

For Best IDU , Classic, Film, Judges chose "Come Home" by[nation] Russian Mafia Government [/nation], however due to moral issues, the judges are "not voting for our country", so RMG's vote for Best IDU Classic goes to

The Silent Heroes, by [nation]Comhar[/nation]

The judges were absolutely hooked with this emotional thriller. They loved the story, and it gave them a ton of points due to their story being clear and giving insight to Comhar's film industry capability.

Due to only one submission for For Best Foreign Film, the RMG judges defaulted the win to

Discovery, by Forodwaith.

Best Actor/Actress:, the judges voted

Melisa McDade, from [nation]Libertas Omnium Maximus[/nation]

The judges from Bears Armed this year are Alberre White (adult male, from the BA Association for Moving Pictures, was also a judge last year), Darroth o Greewoods (adult male, from the BABC), and Marra o Westfells (adult female, competition winner). They will give their opinions for each category in the reverse of that order, i.e. with the least senior individual speaking first.

Alberre: ?Hrright, and the 'Best IDU Film' this year is??
Marra: ?The Golden Mirror!"
Darroth: ?Hwhat, not RBP?"
Alberre: ?Sorry, Sarr?, that?s all very worthy and so on but let?s have something with a bit more excitement, instead. I?ll admit to having been tempted by ?Brushstrokes?, and even by ?Damnation Creek? as well, for true ? but to keep the decisions simple I?ll vote with Marra on this so ?The Golden Mirror? it is."

Darroth; Best Actor in an IDU film, next?"
Marra: ?That just has to be Barrwen Evenstar, no doubts?"
Darroth: ?For true! Whau!??
Alberre: ?Ayyuh, well I thought that Aurelie Liao was pretty good too??
Marra: ?Hr'mmm... Aurelie was pretty good, I agree, but I?m sticking with Barrwen."
Alberre: ?Hokay, then, I?ll make it unanimous: Ourr vote goes to Barren ?Evenstar? vah-Bearren.?

Marra: ?And for ?Best IDU Classic Film? we?ve got a bit more choice than last year?s judges. Well, supposedly we have, anyhows, but for me it just has to be ?Bearren and Lursienne?? and seeing that again brings back so many happy memories of watching it with my family at holidays, too."
Darroth: ?Ayyuh, and that?s a classic that earns the right to be broadcast again every year. Now I liked the soundtrack for ?The Silent Heroes? too, but I?ll agree with you here.?
Alberre: ?Ayyuh,, and so will I, so that?s unanimous again."

Alberre: ?And finally 'Best Non-IDU Film'? With only one entry in that category, I suppose the decision?s easy: ?Discovery?, ayyuh??
Marra: ?Ayyuh? but let?s hope for a wider choice next year??
Darroth: ?Ayyuh, and I agree on the latter point too."
Alberre: And I'll make that unanimous, bothwise.
"Hrright, that one was easy enough..."

Alberre: ?And that concludes the votes of the Bears Armed jury.?
