29th Olympic Games

Wow, has anyone been watching this? So far, I've found myself actually glued to the TV. That relay the other night when the US beat France was amazing. So much for trash talking! And then tonight the men's gymnastics...I never thought I would get excited over that sport. It was a shame they messed up at the end...but I'm glad that they got a bronze, especially after losing the Hamm brothers and being alternates. I also caught some obscure sports like water polo (which seems like it would be really hard, aka, not for me) and badminton (yeah, still not all that exciting). Fencing was pretty neat. I still don't understand equestrian...

I'm still a basketball fan foremost...I hope the US can get back to glory! I can't wait for track and some more swimming, too!

I watched it last night, but unfortunately I'll be missing a lot of it as I'm busy with school commitments. (School starts here next monday, bleh.)

That relay was amazing. Five teams breaking the world record?! And the split-second finish...really exciting. I'm not of the France-hating variety like so many people around here, but it is always good to see your team win Smile

OLYMPIC TRIVIA

Worst-named entrant ever?

The events in the 1904 Olympics, held in St Louis USA, included the sport of Lacrosse which -- as I expect most, if not all of you, already know -- was based on one that had been played amongst some of the Native American peoples.
The team that Canada sent to this event was actually drawn entirely from the Mohawk tribe, and most of its members had what one might consider to be stereotypical "Red Indian" ['heroic] names... 'Black Eagle', 'Black Hawk', 'Snake-Eater', and so on...
but then they also included a player who was known as 'Man Afraid Soap' !

Pity his poor team-mates...

Heh, nice Big Grin

(Tonight I was rooting for Shawn Johnson in gymnastics all night...she is from Iowa! Not too many Iowans make it in international news, so the whole state is pretty excited Smile)

Yay for Michael Phelps!
That race against Cavic was impossibly close...it still looks like he lost on the videos they were playing (over and over).

I'm just happy Canada is finally winning medals... though Michael Phelps has more than our entire country :protest:

After coming back from holiday, and having spent a week hearing about Pieter van Hoogeband, it's finally time to start following Team GB.
