Pinkeba secedes
#1

A group of bearded militiamen have recently declared rural Pinkeba a sovereign and independent nation! Yuunli's talk radio pundits demand immediate government action.

The Debate

1. "Gov'mint's not workin' fo' folks 'round here," says Faith Love, a turnip farmer, "We have ourselves a guar-un-teed right to form a gov'mint that works for us. We don't want any confrontation, now, we just want to shake hands and let ya'll get along with yer business while we get along with ours."

2. "I can't believe this!" shouts General Bill Sherman. "This is tantamount to treason! Our political system would collapse if whole territories were allowed to leave at any time. It would be chaos! I propose that you let me take care of the problem...permanently."

3. "Perhaps we can reach a suitable middle ground," says an elderly gentleman resting on a park bench, "If we were to bring government close to the people, and allow them to have a modicum of self-determination, perhaps they wouldn't feel the need to cede. Let's give the local governments more power."

4. "Our last caller made a really good point," says talk radio host Pete Jefferson, "These decent, hard working citizens are clearly being brainwashed by Yuunli Public Radio's prattle. I don't want my tax dollars supporting their agenda. Therefore, the answer is clear: dismantle Yuunli Public Radio."

Following the Constitution of the Republic, any part of the country may secede if this is supported by a strong majority in a referendum. This is the case in the province of Pinkeba (called B?ng?whe in the local dialect).

Thus the Republic of Yuunli has only 16 provinces now, and the Autonomous Community of Chirachi (the continental part of Yuunli) now has 5 neighbors: the Free Land of B?ng?whe, the Interstellar Federation of DataGenesis, the People's Republic of Flankia, the Democratic Federation of Grosseschnauzer, and the Gemeinde of Sober Thought.

N?gus ?nai (Makuz Imai) of the Conservative Party of Yuunli, the former Chairman of the Executive Council of the province, becomes B?ng?whe's first President.

B?ng?whe's new official language is the local dialect of Poirih, which they call Baar?. They decide to keep the Yuunli Dollar as its national currency?at least as long as they don't want a currency of their own?, and to continue participating in the Yuunli Triball Major League. I don't know what happens to the planned freeways through the Tiafn/D?efn Mountains, though...

The government of Yuunli decided to implement a few measures to improve the strength of the provinces and autonomous communities, hoping this will prevent another secession.

Official languages: Standard Poirih is actually a mixture of Mich-Inzl and Chirachi dialects. It remains official on the federal level, but two local dialects are added: The Oipach dialect (Oopfai-Pfolig) for Mich-Inzl/Mie-Inzl, and the Lankoin dialect (Langoon-Bor?) for Chirachi/Z?razz?.

Official name: The name of the country is changed from "Republic of Yuunli" (Repuplik Yuanal) to "Yuunli Federation" (Yuanal-Punt / Y?nal-Pf?nt / Yuen?l-Bunt).
Likewise, the central bank is now called "Yuunli Federation Bank" (Yuanal-Punt-Pank / Y?nal-Pf?nt-Pfank / Yuen?l-Bunt-Bank).

Federation competences:
* International relations
* Social security
* Public-right media
* Compatibility of education systems
* Economic cooperation
* Cooperation on science and technology

Autonomous Community competences:
* National security (police, hospitals, fire fighters, civil protection)
* Environment protection
* National infrastructure
* Codetermination in international matters

Provincial competences:
* Economy
* Education
* Local infrastructure
* Science and technology
* All the rest...

Let's see whether B?ng?whe doesn't want to come back. Wink

Oops! I checked the NationStates site before the forum, and I sent a welcoming TG to Bungowhe without realizing that's what it was the former Pinkeba province of Yuunli.

I still like the simple bicolour flag, but I should add a congratulatory comment about dealing peacefully with secession. Like Yuunli, the Sober Thought constitution allows separation by the ballot box. But unlike, Yuunli ST is not willing to loosen its constitution any further.

I have never had this daily issue before, so maybe one of my provinces will also split and become independent.
