Safe Train Act
#1

I was wondering if someone could write a proposal for a safe train act. I don't really know how to write them.

Maybe include all new train tracks need to have a 500-1000 ft view of railroad crossing before crossing it, giving it enough time to stop. Also include all trains need to be outfitted with better hydraulic breaks. A max speed which depends on the track and trains in use. Maybe the speed should depend on the weight of the train too. Better security around trains carrying hazardous materials... like bio and nuclear materials. Slower speeds for trains carrying hazardous materials.

I think this is a good one, because of the recent train crash. Is this worth it or just a waste of the UN time?? Should this maybe just be something individual countries should take care of? There are plenty of railroad crashes that we don?t here about that kill people all the time.

It's nice to see new members taking an interest in the UN!

You might meet some opposition from the natsov camp, saying this is a national concern. I'm not sure how much international significance this has, because it's certainly in the interest of nations and railroad companies for their trains to not crash. Perhaps you could right something about tourists having to be adequately informed about safety risks when boarding different modes of transportation?

Writing a resolution is really quite easy. There's a nice guide for newbies here

tell me what you think about this:

Safety Train Act I
A Resolution to Provide a Safer Travel by Train

The United Nations,

SADDENED by the increasing number of deaths from train wrecks,

CONVINCED traveling by train should be just as safe as by air,

1. MANDATES all new railroad tracks to have a 500-1000 ft. view down track from railroad crossings and stations,

2. URGES nations to re-lay track to comply with the stated above length if possible but not necessary,

2. STRONGLY URGES all new trains to have better Hydraulic Brakes then current ones,

3. MANDATES max speeds for trains based on weight.

Here is my second one, they are different...

Safety Train Act II
A Resolution for a Safer Way to Transport Hazardous Materials by Train

The United Nations,

DISTURBED by the chance of a horrible disaster involving hazardous materials,

NOTING that if a train carrying hazardous materials were to crash it could kill entire cities and make the land not livable for years,

NOTING that people the hazardous materials don?t kill but come in contact with could leave them horribly deformed,

NOTING hazardous materials on trains could be used to make nuclear or biological weapons if they fall into the wrong hands,

1. REQUIRES all nations to increase security around trains carrying hazardous materials,

2. URGES nations to transport these materials during the night to decrease maximum exposure,

3. MANDATES these trains carrying hazardous materials to travel at a slower speed then required,

4. STRONGLY URGES nations to require better Hydraulic Brakes for trains carrying hazardous materials.

I think Act I is of international interest. You would be very mad if someone of your nation or multiple people of your nation die on another nation's train because they did not have a low speed like your nation and the train went around a curve too fast, derailed and slamned into a building, killing everyone on the train including your citizens.

O_O

post what you guys think about my 2 resolutions

While Ceo and Miki (who currently has a UN proposal at vote) are more qualified than me to discuss content, I too, want to commend you for giving a resolution a try. Whether the content is for practice or may have teeth, it's great to see you involved so quickly.

I should also add that there are other nations here who can give good counsel on what makes a good resolution.
