The Ceoranan Crisis

OOC: OK. I'm bored with my nation. Yes, it's cool and all that, but it gets boring having the same structure all the time.

So, I'm going to create completely unrealistic weather conditions that destroy it and make it uninhabitable or something, then start over with the old Congress colonizing the southwestern area of what used to be Yuunli. The government will be the same, mostly, because they will be the ones starting the rebuilding, but the landscape, cities, geography, climate, transportation, and a whole bunch of stuff will be different.

The story can be followed in The New Boston Times, although I'm pretty sure it will be renamed when New Boston is destroyed.

Fun.

IC: none yet. I'll keep everyone posted in this thread, and of course other governments can respond, (although no one IC knows about the OOC stuff, because it hasn't happened yet), and stuff.

Would this mean a new nation in gameplay terms, starting back at 5 million people & so on? Why not (says a player who's currently got twenty-something different nations in existence, although admittedly only a handful of them are actually active...) just start the a one -- or two, or three -- without destroying the old one?

Still OOC: You could even use some of Yuunli's provinces, cities, etc., if you wanted, he has an extensive NSwiki.

Short answer: because it's more fun to destroy it.

Excuse: The way I see it, Ceorana is a nation (a cultural entity) and a state (a governmental entity), which ties in with the name of the game NationStates. It's not so much a country (a geographical entity), because it's moved via military-grade helicopters from region to region. "Ceorana" is the common name for the country internationally, for lack of a better word. I might decide to designate a better word (such as "North Ceorana Territory" and "South Ceorana Territory") in the roleplay. The people will mostly move into the new territory and will form settlements all along the coast of it. So the people will be the same. The Congress will also be forced to evacuate and vote on a site for a capital in the new territory. So the government will be the same.

However, I am going to create a new nation to RP with. It will represent the gangs of the old territory that take over and eventually form a small but functioning society.

OOC: I think I'm going to RP it as finding the ruins of Yuunli, and exploring in through the ruins.

IC:

My friends, it is my sad duty to report to you that the entire northern part of Ceorana has been rendered completely uninhabitable and that we are experiencing major population crowding in our southern half.

This unfortunate incident occurred due to a plane crash from a SkyCeo flight out of New Boston, headed for Agriqo. Unfortunately, in the rush, the passengers' checked baggage was not screened and size limits not enforced.

Current reports indicate that a medium-size hippopotamus, imported from another nation, was checked in a flimsy piece of baggage. Another passenger checked a one hundred coral snakes, all put in a box with large breathing holes.

Using data from footage from the cameras in the checked area, the snakes escaped from their crate through the airholes and provoked the hippo. The hippo went on a rampage through the checked area, eventually "pinballing" between the walls. He eventually weaked the fuselage in one area so much that he created a large hole. Startled, he ran away from it, creating another hole in the other side of the fuselage. At this point, the crew was alerted to the problem by the noise, but did not know its exact nature. They began to commence an emergency landing at Agriqo Regional Airport (AGQ)

The hippo continued pinballing until the holes were big enough for baggage to fall out, which it began doing. The hippo was so startled from this that it jumped - and hit the ceiling, which was, by unlucky coincidence, right below the fuel tank. Fuel began leaking at an alarming rate. But then the hippo landed - and cracked a hole in the bottom of the plane, which he somehow avoided falling through.

The pilot opened the cross-feed valve to equalize the fuel, which just caused more fuel to leak. The hippo was so angry at the fuel dripping down that he began purposefullly goring the ceiling, which cause more fuel to drop out. The plane was now almost completely out of fuel, and the pilot began to glide. But the winds were strong, and the plane began veering off-course, towards the uninhabited wilderness of the Konvensjon Mountains.

Unfortunately, the wilderness is usually a safe place to put dangerous stuff - like a radiological weaponry defense system testing lab for the University of Ceorana. The RWDSTL-UC was using contained radiological weapons to test the defense system. Not good for us, however, was the fact that the weapons were no longer contained when the plane crashed into them due to a downdraft, and that nuclear waste spread all over northern Ceorana.

We are beginning to think about the advice of the radical fringe groups and colonizing the ruins of Yuunli to get more space for our population.

I will keep you updated.

That hippo was meant as a gift, not for goring holes in a plane.

OOC: *shrug* I needed some way to get the hippo going. Wink

When Mik updates the map, I'll provide detailed maps of what is going on, including the radiated area, routes for the ships and airplanes, locations of new cities, and so on.

Also, OOC, of course this is taking place over a number of years.

IC:

We thank the Antrian Red Cross for its generous offer of assistance. We suggest it contact the Ceoranan Red Moon for information.

Congress and a large portion of the population have migrated to what used to be Yuunli, and have decided to call the part of it that Ceorana has landed on "Nova Ceorana". We have established some temporary settlements in the ruins and have selected a site for a capital city, which will be called Stormdale, due to the large storm that greeted us when we arrived and its location in a small valley. We have explorers prospecting for natural resources and other scientists checking for conditions.

News can be found in the Stormdale Intelligencer, which is being run by the same company and editors as the New Boston Times.

OOC: I won't be updating the maps on weekends ... just week nights. I still need to get a new PC. Also, on the subject of helicopters, I've just assumed that since all nations start in the "Pacific Seeders" that it isn't until they move out of feeders that they forge lasting political ties (regions).

IC:
Is there any aid that the Mikitivity Rote Kreuz can provide?

The Malabrian government wishes its condolences to the peoples of Ceorana. The Malabrian Red Cross is dispatching a team right away to Nova Ceorana. An executive order has been issued by the Royal Family that requires all flags to be held at half-staff for the victims of this tragedy.
#11

See, the thing is, there weren't really any victims. Sure, there are people who might get cancer a few years early because they were in range of the radiation, but they got out fast.

EDIT: except for the people on the plane.

What Ceorana really would like to ask for is cash. We're short on money to build infrastructure and buildings in Nova Ceorana. We would like to extend an offer to any willing bank to help finance our building. Loans will be paid back as soon as possible, upon the credit of the government of Ceorana.

We thank you for your generosity in our time of need.
