Here's some 'Tourist Guide' infromation for the city where the Festival will be hold & the surrounding district.

____________________________________________________________________________

SOUTHERN REDWOOD
This is a large territory, belonging (as its name clearly suggests) to the influential ?Clan Redwood?, whose northern edge is located a moderate distance south of Council Groves. It has been important economically and politically since quite early in the history of Bears Armed. The landscape basically slopes upwards from north-east to south-west, from the WideWindle?s valley to the SouthWall Mountains and the foothills of the High Ranges.
Tourists would reach this area by rail, from either Council Groves (around, or with a ferry trip across, the Long Lake) or the ?Northern Redwood? area, probably passing through the lands of ?Clan BerryGlades? (?the fruit-basket of BearHome??), or possibly by road from the ?Mid-Surra? valley which lies to its south (although that choice would probably be only as part of a tour that was lasting for longer than just two weeks).

Places to see in Southern Redwood

a/ he city of ?Urrath-am-Barrah?, which was the capital city both of ?Clan Redwood? and of ?Bears Armed? as a whole during the Monarchic Period: although it has now been superseded in its political roles it remains very important as a cultural and commercial centre. Particularly worth seeing are its medieval & later defences, including a large castle that?s called ?The Tower of Urrath? (and that still houses both the Crown Jewels and the Royal Armoury, which are open to the public?), three separate Palaces that are now primarily museums (although the descendants of the last Kings have retained a hereditary right to live in the East Wing of the largest of these, which is known simply as?BearKing?s-Home??), the grounds of those establishments (with the one at BearKing?s-Home including both the ?Royal Botanial Gardens? and the ?Royal Menagerie?), ?WhiteHill? which is where the ?Great Council? ? the forebears of today?s ?High Council of Clans? ? commonly met during Monarchic times, the Ursion Church?s cathedral of St Grregh-the-DragonSlayer, some showrooms of the Smith-Folk (The 'SmithFolk' are a non-Ursine people, whom some of you might think should be called 'Dwarves'... but they themselves object MOST STRONGLY to that name, saying that Humans apply it to things that are smaller than they should be whereas they themselves are just the right size and it's other people who are too tall: If you absolutely must call them anything except 'SmithFolk' then it's "Nibbelungher?, thank you very much. In their showrooms you can purchase jewels, fine blades, mechanical toys, clocks and watches, scientific instruments, and other works of craftsmanship...) , the Royal Opera house, the Alberre Hall (which is the site of many great concerts), various other concert halls, and museums, theatres, casinos, and restaurants.

b/The ?Free City of Barra-Barra? is situated just across the Evening River from Urrath-am-Barrah, to which it is linked by three splendid bridges. It was established as an enclave where the leaderships of the Clans could maintain residences and missions, close to the Royal Court but with special immunity from Clan Redwood?s laws. This is worth visiting for its fine old buildings, which are in a wide variety of styles, and its restaurants that feature every cuisine from Bears Armed and some from further afield too?

c/The valley of the Evening River also contains a scenic lake that is called ?Lake Peaceful, situated at its junction with WideWindle, and ? upstream from Urrath ? ?Long Island? (which is mostly a Clannal park, preserved for its natural beauty, but was formerly a Royal hunting-ground) and its neighbour ?Short Island?, a lake called ?the Pool of Berroam? (located a few leagues away from the actual river) which has historical and religious significance to the Ursines, and the town of ?Imborrah? which is the administrative centre for this territory nowadays.

d/ One of the best-known of the natural wonders that can be seen in this territory is a large wood that is composed mainly of Redwood trees. This has special significance to Clan Redwood, and visiting outsiders are advised to be respectful of that fact.

e/ The industries of Bears Armed include a prosperous Treacle-mining & refining sector, and one of the country?s main treacle-fields partially underlies this territory. Tourists are invited to visit the works at ?Kam-Barrwich?, see the industry in action, and sample its products (which include a form of Rum?).

f/ While you are at that treaclefield, why not also visit the Museum of Palaeontology at Rah Berrar whose displays include many of the fossils and sub-fossils that have been extracted from the local treacle-pits through the years?

g/The hills to the south of Urrath-am-Barrah contain several large systems of caves, including the one where a near-legendary hero named ?Urthrro ?Vurra?? was born and where he subsequently sheltered for a while during the war to overthrow the tyrannical wizards who ruled the ?Purple Empire?; nearby, at the town of ?Barrwoo?, a set of well-painted murals tell his life-story in pictures.

h/ At the southern edge of this territory, the route to the Mid-Surra valley runs through a gap in the mountains that is called ?Ba?h Khaia? (i.e. ?Bloody Pass?). The district around it contains numerous old fortifications and historic battlefields, several sites where works of the region?s pre-Ursine civilisation remain visible, and even a few unique species of plants and animals.

On a dais at one end of the hall, a string quartet is gently playing tunes by the famous Bearroque composer Jay Effbark.

The bears' judge this year is Hrrubert White, a celebrity chef, who won this role through a public phone-in vote. He is currently strolling around the display hall, examining the various entries.

Hirematia's judge this year is Malla Devasa, a poor cheese farmer turned millionaire after founding his own Grade A muruwalith company. He currently owns a large family farm, has contracts with 12 small family farms, and employs 128 workers. His company now makes other types of cheese, such as badellagu, chhena, and parvatanna.

He marvels the impressive display of cheeses before him and is fascinated by the quesadillas from New Texas.

"Such a simple concept, yet so well done," he mutters to himself.

Hrrubert finishes his examination of the entries. It has been a difficult choice -- and he definitely liked both of the Hirematian entries in the 'Best Cheese-related Product' category a lot, too -- but he's now made his decisions.

Nova Sodor's is Michelle Chamberlain - an attach? to the VIA trade delegation.

After enjoying the hospitality offered by the host nation Michelle got down to the difficult job of judging. At the forefront of her mind was the self imposed Archipelagoan rule that can not vote for their entry.

Chester "Cheesy" McCheeseTex, NewTexan Cheesemonger Extraordinaire, accompanies Big Tex at the IDU Cheese Festival. They eagerly listen to everyone's story and ask each for a sample to take with them. They return to their hospitality suite and gear up into some of their finest ceremonial hiking kits and head out to discover The Valley of the Evening River. Upon arrival, they spot the most peaceful lake they have ever seen.

"Wow, what a peaceful lake!", exclaims Big Tex.

"Yes, that is Lake Peaceful.", proclaims Chester.

"We just said that.", explains Big Tex.

"No, that is its name, Lake Peaceful.", Chester attempts to explain.

"Where is Lake Peaceful?", questions Big Tex.

"There, there is Lake Peaceful.", Chester offers.

"Where?", questions a clearly exasperated Big Tex.

"There, that peaceful lake!", replies Chester quickly seeing where this is going.

"Wait, who's on first?", exclaims Big Tex.

"Lake Peaceful!", yells a now clearly exasperated Chester.

"Let's have a picnic and pick some winners!", declares Big Tex changing the subject.

As the two settle into a peaceful patch with a scenic view of the peaceful Lake Peaceful, they start with a palate cleanser of basic NewTexan Quesadillas consisting of nothing more than cheddar cheese and tortilla.

The two begin with a Grade A Muruwalith from Hirematia. They smear some on the tortillas they brought with them and proceed to devour them.

"The Hirematians are going to probably be mad.", says Big Tex. "Why?", asks Chester. "For bastardizing their Tihiappathe dish.", replies Big Tex. "Tortillas are just fat crepes without the eggs.", says Chester. "Yeah, close enough. And, it is freaking amazing! We could make a mint selling these back in NewTexas on the street. We have to talk to Hirematians to see if they want to strike an export deal! Winner, Winner, Muruwalith Dinner!", Big Tex exclaims excitedly. Chester concurs between bites as he devours his second.

To be fair, the two sniff the Hirematian Badellagu. "Mountain lion milk.", says Big Tex. "Mountain lion milk.", says Chester. The two meet eyes and carefully pack the Badellagu back up and agree never to speak of it again.

Skipping the palate cleansing, the pair quickly blazed through the IDU offerings returning to two, the Comharan White Cheddar Cheese and the the Laeralian Seiliu Grey. "These Laeralians are peeps after our hearts, Chester! Why didn't you ever think of putting cumin seeds in our cheeses? This is sheer genius! It is like chili without the chili! What a remarkable flavor.", gushes Big Tex. "Yes, the Laeralian Seiliu Grey is truly remarkable! We will have to get The Cheese People to work on some dishes with that!", exclaims Chester as he makes a quesadilla out of it. "The Parchetta is kind of bland...", muses Big Tex to the peaceful Lake Peaceful. "The Trivian Cheddary Creamy Yellowy Spicey Cheddar is the opposite.", mutters Chester as he spits a chunk out while Big Tex is not looking. "While that Comharan White Cheddar Cheese is some good stuff, the sheer brilliance of the Laeralian Seiliu Grey cannot be beaten! Winner, Winner, Seiliu Grey Dinner!", Big Tex exclaims excitedly about the totally yummy product of Laeral. Chester concurs once again.

Malla Devasa is spending a day in the Free City of Barra-Barra. He stops by a restaurant for lunch, orders a wheel of Bison Brii to take back to Hirematia with him, and walks around the town. He takes note of beautiful architecture and the wonderful smells filling the streets. He stops by many street food carts to sample all of this new food, for which he quickly develops a liking. After a day of leisure, he goes back to his hotel room to relax. He then starts a Skype call with his wife, his 16-year old son, and his 10-year old daughter.

"Hi sweetie, hi kids," he begins.

"Hi Malla," his wife responds.

"Hi dad," his kids say in unison.

"So how is it over in Bears Armed?" his son asks.

"It's wonderful," he replies. "The food is amazing, the architecture is beautiful, and the people are so friendly. I'm sure you all will love it when you come tomorrow."

"I can't remember the last time we went on a trip," says his daughter. "You'e always so busy."

"I know, I know," he replies. "Its time for a vacation. Its quite exciting to travel out of our region."

"Those visas were incredibly annoying to fill out though," his wife replies. "But from what I've heard so far it was all worth it."

"See you tommorow dad!" his daughter says.

"Alright now goodbye. I'll see you soon!" Devasa says before hanging up.

He changes into a dress shirt and heads over to a fancy restaurant.

"10 years of nothing but work," he says to himself. "You deserve this."

?All of the participating nation?s judges have now voted, and here are the results:

?In the category
?Best Cheese-related Product? we have a clear winner: Quesadillas, from NewTexas, which received five votes as against one vote each for Hirematia?s Rasamul and HuridaIdhraita.
?In the category
?Best Imported Cheese to the IDU? we also have a clear winner: Muruwalith, from Hirematia, which received five votes ?again ? as against two votes for the same nation?s Badellagu.
?Competition in the
?Best IDU Cheese? category, however, was much closer: Two votes each were received both for ?Bison Brii, smoked ?City? variety? from Bears Armed and for ?Seiliu Grey? from Laeral, as against one vote each for each of the other three entries. I therefore declare ?Bison Brii, smoked ?City? variety? and ?Seiliu Grey? to be joint-winners in this category and entitled to say so on their labels and publicity.

?Congratulations to all of the entrants.?
