			The Seollim Guide was first published in [[Suyang]] as the Royal Guide of Haesan in 1898, a project of the Amelian administration in order to entice Opthelian nobility to travel to the nation on holiday. Historical reports and letters show that these efforts were successful, and the guide became a feature of government tourism policy. The 1908 edition was the first to rate a foreign nation's restaurants as [[Laeral]] was included in the guide. In 1921 as Haesan decolonized, the democratic government maintained the guide under the name the Haesan Touristic Guide, a project that was continued by the Free Republic governments after the April Coup in 1942. Publication stopped in 1962 during the [[Great War]] and the Guide went unpublished until 1976. The second Lagarde government did not continue the guide after reinstatement in 1972, and in 1975, the Seollim Group purchased the rights to the Haesan Touristic Guide for a sum of 5 million sol, or the equivalent of around £5,000 SCT at the time. In 1976, the guide was published under the name the Seollim Guide for the first time.

			Under the management of the Seollim Group, the guide has expanded to include a global reach and has added ranking measures in other categories including sustainability and accessibility. In 2005, the Seollim Group announced that they would not be content with "only being the premier restaurant ranking system" and that they sought to "become the most holistic source of information for all travelers' touristic needs" and has since ramped up their hotels and attractions scouting services. In 2008, the Seollim group first partnered with booking services to allow those browsing to purchase hotel rooms and tickets and has since allowed ranked restaurants to provide information so that visitors can make reservations directly on their site. This practice has now become uniform on their site, which is now one of the most popular booking sites, visited by about 250 million IDUvians a month.
