In response a militia was formed by the Provincial Government and up to this point, the federal government could not respond. The Northern Isles Militia eventually captured or killed all rebels, burning the town of Leewell in the process, they then executed the leaders and began a 2-year occupation of the island. This event showed how the federal government could act on local issues.
