The '''Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs''' (often referred to as the '''DARA''' or simply the '''Department of Agriculture''') is the [[Sanctaria|Sanctarian]] government department responsible for national agricultural policy, food production and standards, fisheries, animal health and welfare, and the development and support of rural communities. The Department was established on 19 November 1974 as the Department of Agriculture, one of the original government departments. Over subsequent decades, its responsibilities have included energy, environmental protection, and land affairs, before adopting its current name and responsibilities in February 2018.

The Department is divided into several directorates, each headed by a Director who reports to the Director-General. These directorates are responsible for agricultural policy and support programmes, food standards and safety, fisheries management, animal health and welfare, and rural development. Civil servants throughout the Department report through their respective management structures to the Director-General, who is answerable to the Secretary.
