The '''Commonwealth of Mannenois''', commonly called '''Mannenois''', is a sovereign country located in the [[International Democratic Union]]. Its nine provinces and three territories span over 700,000 square miles. Mannenois' fifty-five million citizens live primarily in urban areas located on the coasts. The capital of Mannenois is Victoria and the largest city is Manhattan Beach. Other major urban centers include Port Royal, New Fairfax, and Newport.

Various indigenous peoples inhabited Mannenois for thousands of years before the arrival of Christian missionaries. In the 17th century, Christian missionaries landed and built permanent settlements in southern Mannenois. The tension between the missionaries and the indigenous tribes led to numerous conflicts until the arrival of the Sainterran navy in 1730. Soon after, Sainterre incorporated Mannenois as a crown colony. Eventually, it became Sainterre’s most populous colony due to its hospitable climate, expansive coastlines, and abundance of natural resources. Mannenois declared its independence from the Crown in 1964 during the Second Sainterran Civil War which resulted in the dissolution of the Sainterran monarchy and the collapse of its imperial holdings. Following the official handover of authority in 1965, Mannenois became a sovereign country.

Today, the Commonwealth of Mannenois is a federal constitutional parliamentary republic, with the Governor Regent serving as the head of state and the Federal Chancellor as the head of government who chairs the Cabinet. Mannenois has a bicameral legislature comprised of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Mannenois is a highly developed country and member of various international organizations like the International Democratic Union and the World Assembly. It has a strong mixed economy which is largely dominated by the information technology, tourism, aerospace industries.

==Etymology==
Mannenois is pronounced "man-nen-wa" and is likely derived from the Old Rivanian words, ''manenn'' meaning "great forest", and the suffix ''ois'' which is an honorific traditionally prescribed to villages.

The first formal use of the name "Mannenois" was in 1720 when it appeared on the Royal Charter granted by King Alexander V of Sainterre to the Fairfax Company, the private company that would own Mannenois until its sale to the Sainterran Crown in 1740. Soon after, Mannenois was officially incorporated into Sainterre's imperial holdings under the name "Sainterran Mannenois" which would be used until independence in 1965.

During the Second Sainterran Civil War, Mannenois declared its independence and permanent separation from the Crown. The Mannenoisan Legislative Council, the colony's devolved legislature convened and drafted the Federal Constitution, which was largely written by Jonathan Grey and the Committee of Five, and officially named the country the "Commonwealth of Mannenois". The name and the Federal Constitution itself was approved unanimously by the Legislative Council and ratified by Governor Regent William Brookings.
