Welcome and Recruiting TGs

I have been badly, badly behind in getting some welcome and recruiting TGs going for us as promised. So, here's my attempt to fix that.

For a basic welcome TG, I was thinking something like this:

Quote:Welcome to the International Democratic Union! We're glad to have you here, and look forward to getting to know you (and your nation!) You're probably wondering how to begin participating in the region. Here's a quick guide to get you started.

1) If you haven't done so already, please consider joining the WA and endorsing our elected delegate, Sanctaria. It's not a requirement, but the more nations that endorse our Delegate, the more able they are to represent our collective interest in the WA.

2) Sign up on our regional forum. You can introduce yourself, and begin participating in regional roleplay there. You can also request citizenship and join our regional OOC legislature, the IDUSA.

3) Stake your claim on our regional map to find a place to call home. Questions or requests concerning the map? Reach out to our regional cartographer, Gardavasque. Have questions about the ecology of your nation and how it fits into the IDU map? Reach out to our regional ecologist, Bears Armed.

4) Once you've got your foundation down, build your nation and its place in the IDU further. You can post all about your nation on our Regional Wiki. You can also use the IDU Media Center to post news updates for your nation.

5) Join our Discord servers to participate further in roleplay, hang out with us, and see what's happening behind the scenes. We have two servers. Our primary Discord server is where we conduct most of our online activity and chatting. Our in-character Discord server is specifically designated for real-time interaction between characters.

6) Have any other questions or concerns? Feel free to reach out to any of our regional officers listed on the regional NS page, or to any of us on Discord, and we'll be happy to help. Also, if you've asked for something on our forum (such as citizenship, IDUSA membership, or a map spot) and haven't heard back in a timely manner, please let Xiomera know either by Discord or NS telegram.

Once again, welcome to the IDU! We're glad you've joined us.

This would be sent out as soon as possible to any new members who arrive in the IDU; if there is a way to automate this process, I'm highly interested. Otherwise, I would do my best to make sure we get these out in a timely manner.

For a recruiting TG, I am a bit more stuck but have an idea on how to approach it. Recruiting TGs are essentially obnoxious to the point of spam in their repetitiveness and sheer volume whenever a new nation gets created. I think we need to do better to stand out and also add some kind of value. To that end, I am thinking that some examples of what we have to offer, and some testimonials from IDU members about why they like it here, are a big part of that. I am thinking that volunteers could write a brief (two to three line) statement about what they like about the IDU, and why they think new members should join. I am also open to any other suggestions in regards to what we can do with a recruiting TG.

I look forward to working with this team for the next 6 months!

Hello!

Firstly, thank you for electing me your new Delegate. I'm looking forward to working for the IDU for the next 6 months.

Secondly, thank you to everyone who served in Xiomera's two cabinets. Thank you for your service.

I'm opening up applications to join my cabinet. Please either TG me on NationStates or PM me on Discord and we can have a conversation. In my cabinet this year, there will be the standard Foreign Minister, Immigration Minister etc, but we may create new cabinet-level positions that haven't been done before, if they suit the person's skillsets better. So if you're interested, approach me about what you might like to do, and what you're good at, and we'll have a conversations.

I look forward to hearing from people! I'd like to get my cabinet announced pretty soon, so y'all don't have long!

It's called autumn, not fall

It's that time again, to begin thinking about our next quarterly update to go out to other regions. Following the same schedule as before, we will distribute the update at the end of October. This gives us about a month to write it up from now. There are a few things that I'd like to see included, but more ideas are more than welcome - and needed! Ideas so far:

Something about N-Day - [nation]Lauchenoiria[/nation]

Article on the wiki - this was suggested last time but not completed, my fault - author needed

Something on the Film Festival if it concludes in this time - author needed

Article about AoP and RP in general - [nation]Xiomera[/nation]

Sports & roadmap for future sports - [nation]Legionas[/nation]

Hi there everyone. Xiomera and I discussed trying to get out a regional update this year and so I've started this thread to work on it. This will be a newspaper-style update that will be distributed to other regions.

Unfortunately, last year's attempt didn't end up happening, but I'm very grateful to [nation]Laeral[/nation] for the effort and to everyone who contributed articles to that, particularly [nation]United New England[/nation] who I know did a lot of work on it.

I'm inclined to stick to Laeral's suggestion of quarterly updates, but in order to make things more manageable, perhaps less articles overall than were proposed in the previous iteration of this thread.

Proposed Schedule
January: Winter
April: Spring
July: Summer
October: Autumn

I am of the opinion that we should have as many articles as people are willing to write, and as such I'd like to invite people to post topics they'd like to write about and we will see if we can include it in this update.

Article suggestions (other ideas welcome, not all of these need to be written) - credit to Laeral for many of these suggestions
- Article on Artists of Progress RP
- Article on news threads
- Article about an IDU wiki page
- Article on delegate elections
- Interview with a regional officer
- Interview with a roleplayer

If you're interested in writing an article for this update, please reply in this thread with the topic you'd like to write on. Ideally, we will have all articles written by the 30th July so the update can go out on the last day of this month.

Happy writing!

Hello everyone. I am in the midst of putting together a new Cabinet and would like to open up the process to see who may be interested in filling a role. If you’re an existing position-holder, or are not one yet (but would like to be), please message me privately on Discord. I may be asking questions relevant to the role.

To give anyone interested time to respond, I will leave this bid open until midnight CST on July 6th. I will announce my Cabinet picks on Tuesday, July 7th.

If you’re an existing position-holder and do not contact me prior to the 7th, I will assume that to be an effective resignation from the role.

The open roles will be Foreign Minister, Culture Minister and Immigration Minister. Please feel free to ask me questions as well. Thanks everyone ?

[*i][*b]“Hrarroom!”[*/b] (= “Greetings”)[*/i],
On behalf of the entire region, I would like to extend to you our warmest welcome!

First and foremost, we would like you to feel comfortable here. No matter how you found us, you have come to a region in which we try — usually with success — to maintain a happy atmosphere and to help new players find their feet in Nationstates as a whole. We have maintained democratic government for over a decade, but despite that fact and this region’s name we generally accept nations of most non-democratic types & policies too although ones that openly advocate Nazism or other hate-based ideologies might be asked to leave: According to our Constitution the only nations that can be banned summarily are ‘invaders’ who are involved in hostilities against us [*i](During the annual Halloween event this category is stretched to include pro-Zombie nations… but, even then, they’re likely to be allowed back once that event is over).[*/i]

Secondly, as a resident of the IDU you’re welcome to do as much — or as little — here as you like:
Post on the regional message board if you want to [*i](within normal rules about keeping it fairly ‘clean’, not flaming or trolling, and not advocating illegal activity, of course)[*/i], or don’t.
Join the regional forum [*i](@ [*b]https://theidu.us/forum/[*/b])[*/i], or don’t… although if you want to get seriously involved in regional politics then registering as a member there [*u]is[*/u] necessary. Activities on that forum include not only regional politics, and regional policy discussions, but also some role-playing, discussions about nation-building, and even a few ‘game’ threads.
Join the [*url= https://www.nationstates.net/page=un]World Assembly[*/url] — if you don’t already hold WA membership through another nation elsewhere, that you wish to keep as your WA presence, of course — or don’t. If you do join, or have moved a nation that already holds membership into this region, then please endorse the elected Delegate and also — unless they’re only just below the Delegate in number of endorsements anyway — the Vice-Delegate. [*i](To endorse, just click on the name, scroll down, and then click on ‘endorse’…)[*/i] These positions are currently held by [*nation]Lauchenoiria[*/nation] and [*nation]Trive 38[*/nation] respectively, but elections are held regularly and any nation that has been not only in this region but also in this region’s internal legislature the [*url= https://theidu.us/forum/viewforum.php?f=...8711f95827][*b]IDUSA[*/b][*/url] from at least one week before voting opens is eligible to vote and to run for office.
If you endorse the Delegate then you’ll be endorsed back, and you are welcome to give & have other endorsements too as long as you don’t try to replace (or to help another nation replace) the Delegate without being properly elected. Our rules say that any WA nation based here is entitled to [*at least] the two endorsements that it would need in order to submit WA proposals.
If you do want to submit a WA proposal, however, then [*u]please[*/u] get it checked for legality and viability first: Either open a drafting thread in the relevant section of the game’s forums or do so in our own forum… We have several members with extensive experience in such matters who are willing to advise new proposal authors.
Get involved in the game’s own forums too, if you want, or don’t. They offer extensive opportunities for roleplay, ranging from the faux-UN antics of the World Assembly and the participation of nations’ athletes & teams in ‘NS Sports’ competitions to the more hardcore ‘International Incidents sub-forum.
And please, don't hesitate for a moment if you have a question. Feel free to contact the Hospitality Minister (currently [*nation]Bears Armed[*/nation]), the Delegate, or any other regional official, for assistance, and to post enquiries about how things work in our RMB or forum, at any time!

Once more, welcome to the [*b]International Democratic Union[*/b]. We hope that you will choose to remain among us.
It is not nearly as voluminous or interactive as the old NSwiki, but as ever it remains a handy resource for sharing and interlinking national and regional information.

I've already begun IDU's page, by adding in the most basic information: http://nswiki.org/index.php?title=Region...atic_Union
BTW, that last section is bot-written and can be ignored. A disclaimer can be added if members do not like the way the bot describes the region.
The "Nations" section I thought might be a good incentive for members here to start wikifying their own countries, and add in the links as they are created. It will take time to get back up to speed, to meet all of the many nations who have come to the IDU since my last period of activity here, and to see how I can best contribute, but under no circumstances will I accept involvement with any representatives from TNP until and unless they make a formal and complete peacr offering to me. This is the second time I have come to the IDU as a refugee from TNP, and I will not go through that again.

Meanwhile, meet Lieb, she's the schnauzer who has been with me since 2010, and turned 5 in September!

Here is a previous IDU Cheese Festival

In 2015, the IDU Cheese Festival will return to the world of NationStates. As always, there will be three prizes:

Best Cheese [open to IDU residents only]
Best Imported Cheese [open to non-IDU residents only]
Best Cheese Related Product [open to IDU and non-IDU residents]

The format will be simple: people submit a description of their cheeses and cheese products, and then we vote on the winners. If people want to do a roleplay relating to the festival that will also be allowed.

I want to keep this simple because regional activity is too low to be overly ambitious. Here are some things we should decide on:

Do we want to change the format at all?

Do we want to conduct the Festival on the IDU forum or on the NS forum?

Should we create a jury/panel for voting, or allow all IDU forum members to vote, or something else?

Any thoughts are welcome.

Hello everyone.
I hope you are doing very well today.
I wanted to point out something just really quick.
As you all know our region here has seen a decline in activity.
And the leadership here is not to blame here, but I believe that in order to get more activity and more profit, we need to put some effort in.
I was once in a region called The Coalition of Democratic Nation. (I served as the first Minister of Justice there.) This region started out with only 85 nations, but it grew to almost 400 in one week.
How did we do this over there?
We sent out recruitment messages to all of the feeder regions during our SPECIAL and cultural events.
So when we are nearing election times, we usually sent out recruitment messages. Or when we had a cultural summit or contest, we also sent out recruitment messages.
I think that if we do this and explain in our recruitment messages our goals and aims at expanding the region, then we would also grow in a matter of days.
Secondly, I would like to suggest doing regional recruitment. Not everyone in the IDU is on the forums, so I think we should appeal to the players and convince to get on here.
And lastly, I know that we all have personal lives, but if each person can spare 5 minutes of their time to just post something on our Spam Games threads, cultural threads, or the introductions threads, this region would bloom.
In addition to this, I would also suggest getting the CIDUS back into business.
I would recommend probably rewriting our Constitution and making a new one. And if we do this it will become necessary for the CIDUS to assemble so that they can work on it.
And believe me if we use this in our recruitment message, it'll attract many people because they would want to be part of the history of the IDU and its Constitution.
I know that these are many ideas at the moment. I know they require work and effort. We have so much work to do with very little staff and resources, but it could be done. And the sooner we do so, the sooner we'll notice the accomplishments.

Thank you for your time everyone.
