Idu Baseball League - The Dominion of BigRedCat - 02-07-2006

In an effort to promote closer ties betwee member states, The Dominion of Big Red Cat is offering the organize a fantasy league for this year's baseball season providing that there is enough interest.

Please post below if you would like to have a team.

Update:

Response has been good so far.
I think that I'd like to go with a Yahoo Head to Head style league. Wins are based on beating your weekly opponent in a variety if key offensive (runs, hits, steals, home runs) and pitching (era, ks, innings pitched, wins) stats. Your team is drafted from a pool of major league players in a draft. Trading is possible.

Also, would you guys prefer a live draft or a auto draft from a list?

Thanks.

Big Red Cat

Idu Baseball League - Mikitivity - 02-08-2006

The Miervatian Reapers would be interested in playing.

Idu Baseball League - Antrium - 02-08-2006

Oh good, we have been waiting for another IDU sporting event Big Grin

Antrium's champion team, The Corico Hawks, would love to participate.

Idu Baseball League - Eisophca - 02-08-2006

Although Ceorana's baseball league is fairly small, our champion team, the New Boston Radicals, would like to participate

Here is the link to the IDU Football Tourny that Groot Gouda ran.

I'm also going to suggest that when any sporting event or festival is in progress, that in practice we temporarily sticky it.

Should we add the IDU Football Tournament to the timeline?

Idu Baseball League - The Dominion of BigRedCat - 02-08-2006

I was thinking like our own Yahoo Head to Head League.

I looked at the Football thread and understood none of it =)

PM Groot Gouda, and he may be able to explain it better, but basically he was pulling numbers from our daily reports (which he archives for us).

The problem with a Yahoo league, is the one I was in two years ago required daily management ... which is difficult.

Idu Baseball League - Federalist - 02-08-2006

The Pagemaster champions, the Atlantis Gladiators would be delighted to participate.

Idu Baseball League - Malabra - 02-08-2006

We'll participate, but we'll get back to you about the name (within the next few days).

Idu Baseball League - Grosseschnauzer - 02-08-2006

Given the errors and mistakes that marred the Football (Soccer) Tournament, we've been advised by the Schnauzerlands Baseball Organization that the owners want to wait and see how the regional league play would be conducted before they decide whether or not to participate.

Since not everybody is up to date on MLB players, a pre-ranking draft sounds a bit better.

Idu Baseball League - The Dominion of BigRedCat - 02-11-2006

agreed.

If we can get ten teams to commit to the league we should be, as they say, in business. =)

Though I realized that the Reapers were Mikitivity's Football team, so it might be better for our baseball team to have a different name. What is the German plural form for Gespenst (which I believe is Ghost)?

It basically takes the UN report score and calculates an amount of goals from that. As it is now all automized, chances on errors are a lot smaller.

If you look at http://www.klijmij.net/~michel/IDU/nations...er2=Groot+Gouda

The highest scores a goal, 8 is higher than 1, etc.

I can do the same for baseball.

Idu Baseball League - Mikitivity - 02-12-2006

M, that calculator is brilliant!

First, since there are some people whom are in vastly different time zones and not familiar with Baseball, the automated scoring system might work out well. But BRCat, I was assuming that you also wanted to actually set up and participate in a Yahoo league as well and I'm personally interested in that as well if there is a league that doesn't require daily maintence. I did a Yahoo baseball league two years ago and got so busy by mid-season that I lost interest. Once a week is fine for me. Smile

Idu Baseball League - Malabra - 02-14-2006

We'll just be called the Malabrian National Team. Real simple. Smile

Idu Baseball League - Eisophca - 03-14-2006

*whistles*

Anyone still up for this?

Idu Baseball League - Baranxtu - 03-14-2006

Well, if that calculator is used and this one actually is done and I don't have to pull stats outta my tuchus, the Baranxtuan Tigers (and mebbe the Otean Eagles) would be interested, if that's still possible.

Oh, and
Quote: What is the German plural form for Gespenst (which I believe is Ghost)? [/quote]
Well, it's either "Gespenst - Gespenster" or "Geist - Geister", both can be translated as ghost. There is some subtle difference between the two of 'em, but don't ask me.

Idu Baseball League - Kelse - 03-14-2006

Kelse would like to participate in a Yahoo Head-To-Head league. Our team name and national mascot will be the Mariners!

Could the difference be the intent of the spirit?

I've seen Geist used in the context of spirits that mean to do harm, where I've seen Gespenst used in children's books *and* in lyrics to simply represent beings that mean no harm???

Yes, Mikitivity would still like to field the Mikitivity Gespenst in an IDU Baseball League.
