Flags of the IDU - Groot Gouda - 04-14-2005

All member nations are invited to share their national flag here, with an explanation on why/how.

The official NS flag of Groot Gouda is based on the RL heraldic shield of Gouda. It is derived from the family crest of the Van Der Goude family. It consists of a central white line, encompassed by 2 red lines. On the sides there are thorns (from per aspera ad astra, through the thorns to the stars) and two lions facing away. The crest has french flowery decorations.

Flags of the IDU - Mikitivity - 04-14-2005

The Confederated City States fly a modification of the Miervatian flag. The three horizontal bars represent the water cycle and Miervatian year: warmth / flood, "between" / dry, cold / snow.

Flags of the IDU - Mikitivity - 04-14-2005

The Miervatian flag is the same as the Mikitivity flag, but has the addition of the "Iron Cross". Miervatia was originally a fortress city, and stronghold key to the crossing of the iron rich Mon Calamari mountains. The Miervatian iron works were put to use in building many fortresses around the terrority of the City States. When the Confederation was formed, they adopted the basic Miervatian flag, minus the iron cross.

Flags of the IDU - Yuunli - 04-27-2005

The Republic of Yuunli consists of two parts with a certain degree of autonomy: an island and a landlocked part of the nearby continent.

The flag of the island represents the three main landscapes of the island: the mountains (red), the woodlands (green), the coast (blue) and the rivers and lakes (blue).

The flag of the continental part is green for the nature on the main plateau. The white color on the sides stands for the mountains in the west and east of the continental part.

The national flag of Yuunli combines these two flags, separating them with a blue band (standing for the sea between the two parts), and at the same time joining them with a yellow star (standing for the sun and the ideals of the Republic).

Flags of the IDU - Federalist - 04-27-2005

THe flag of the Commonwealth of Pagemaster incorporates a transition from Black to white, similar to the Ying-Yang, symbolizing an wish of peace by balancing the force of Good(White) and Evil(Black). The Torch of Freedom is in the center of the flag with the open Book of Knowledge in front.

Flags of the IDU - DataGenesis - 05-07-2005

The Interstellar Federation of DataGenesis, being one of the few space faring nations (and nations interested in interstellar transportation) in the region and world, has modelled its flag on the unique nature of the nation.

The blue and black background is a representation of the galaxy which DataGenesis holds dear to its heart and the black expanse of space. The "D" represents the nations official emblem, which is metallic. It represents the "d"etermination for (non military) technological advance within the nation.

Finally shown is the nations official animal, the "puppy". Puppies roam freely around the nation (Big Grin) and are generally extremely cute and cuddly for the nation's residents and tourists alike. Tongue

The national animal was formerly the "bunnie" and the flag represented as such, however the fluffy huggable bunnies were hugged/eaten to extinction in the late 20th century. We have learnt from our mistakes and will not be serving puppy as a national delicacy.

Our future lies in the stars, but our present lies in the exploration and protection of fellow nations that have their expertise here on our fair planet.

Is there an official flag of the IDU?
If so, is it the blue one with the white cross and a different image in each quarter?
And, if that's the case, are the official colors of the IDU Blue and White?

The answer to the three questions are yes, yes, and yes.

What Grosseschnauzer has done is a little different, but as far as we are concerned out approach would be "grandfathered" in.

(We have an IDU diplomatic flag, for formal diplomatic events involving the IDU, where the IDU blue is used as the background color instead of the schnauzer purple. It's posted in another thread in this forum.)

Thank you for the answer. The Order of Gryphons is contemplating creating Regional Arms for each Chapter. We will probably be using Blue and White for the IDU's Gryphonnic Arms.

Flags of the IDU - Domnonia - 05-21-2005

The Federation of Domnonia
[Image: domiflag.jpg]
The Wings of Federation are featured prominately on our national flag. They signify unity, freedom and democracy.
The symbol above the Wings is called the AKOKO NAN which quickly translates from Old Domini into "the leg of a hen". It is a symbol of nurturing and discipline.

The full name of this symbol translates to "The hen treads on her chicks, but she does not kill them." This represents the ideal nature of parents, being both protective and corrective. An exhortation to nurture children, but a warning not to pamper them. This is how Assymetrical Federalism in Domnonia works.

The Province of Durnovaria
[Image: durnovflag.jpg]
A lotus, standing for life, growth and consciousness. The encirclement of the lotus signifies the presence of the Capital City, Cadorn, and cultural centre of Domini society. This symbol also doubles as the Official Seal of the Government.

The Province of Lindinis
[Image: lindinisflag.jpg]
Also a lotus. Lindinis and Durnovaria were once one Province. And so, share a similar flag.

The Province of Powysia
[Image: powysflag.jpg]
A wreath, encircling an "Asase Ye Duru", which translates from Old Domini to "the Earth has weight". It is a symbol of providence and the divinity of Mother Earth. This symbol represents the importance of the Earth in sustaining life.

The Province of East Hiel
[Image: easthielflag.jpg]
An Akoben(war horn), and a Sankofa(backward turning swan). The Akoben reminds the people of East Hiel that their existance in the Federation relied on the use of heavy military force in the Old Ages. The Sankofa, which translates from Old Domini into "return and get it", is a symbol of the importance of learning from the past.

The Province of Sendar
[Image: sendarflag.jpg]
In the Old Ages, before Sendar joined Confederation, they were a beacon for free and accessible healthcare to all people, regardless of wealth. When they joined Domnonia, they gave free healthcare to their new family as a gift of sorts.

The Province of Ilasia
[Image: ilasiaflag.jpg]
The Symbol of BOA ME NA ME MMOA WO, which translates from Old Domini into "Help me and let me help you". This is a symbol of cooperation and interdependence. The Ilasian people, during the Old Ages, and before Confederation, were great allies of the old Domnonian Kingdom.

The Tomar Territory
[Image: tomar.jpg]
Tomar exists as a tourist destination for many Domini people. The Tomarian people are the most recent to have joined Confederation.

Domnonia --

Was the governing party of Sendar the CCF? B) My RL MP is the national leader of its successor.

Flags of the IDU - Domnonia - 05-21-2005

Well, The People of Sendar have been known to be avid fans of the Fox drama "24". So, it isn't too much of a stretch to pinpoint their socialist tendencies toward Keifer Sutherland and his amazing lineage.

BTW, Tommy Douglas' daughter gave an amazing speech last night at the Centennial Galla. Made me proud to be a Saskatchewanite.

Oh my, Mr. Layton..Mwaha! Can you see him out on your sidewalk doing situps, crunches and "Yoga Booty Ballet" right now? Take a picture!!

Flags of the IDU - Adam Island - 05-23-2005

Adam Island has finally designed a new flag! It consists of a red background to symbolize the courage of those who fought in the Island's numerous civil wars. In the center is the "fractured pyramid" in white, a symbol of peace. These two colors represent Adam Island's committment to peace despite its bloody history, recognizing that blood is sometimes the price to pay for peace.

In the top left corner is the full blue moon. It symbolizes AI's hope for freedom and justice, as well as its allegiance to the IDU.

Both the moon and the pyramid are traditional symbols in Adam Island religion.

With the relocation of three of the four remaining schnauzervolk nation states into the IDU, it is time to post their flags. Kinderliebstadt remains in The North Pacific, representing that portion of Grosseschnazer that actually resides within that region.

Note that the colors of the flag of Kinderliebstaft are the same as Grosseschnauzer, but reversed.
Grosseschnauzer's white on purple signifies the international role it plays for all of the schnauzervolk nations. The other schnauzervolk nations have purple on other colors, ech of which represents the natural beauty of the schnauzevolk nations (green - forests, light purple - mountains, and gry - sand and shorelines. All five nations will use the IDU diplomatic white-on-IDU-blue flag where required.

Ah! Saskatchewanite! I'd never seen it in print, and I never used it. The French terms Saskatchewannais(e) and Fransaskois(e) were so much more elegant and certain.

Canadian Geographic did a spread several last year on the different proposals for making provinces from the NWT. The province of Buffalo, spanning RL Alberta and Saskatchewan south of about 50 degrees was interesting. Maybe the proto-CCFers could have kept the proto-Socreds in check. Big Grin

While I haven't seen Layton do that, I have seen him around in person and shook his hand. I worked on his failed federal campaign in 1997, a municipal campaign and gave money this time around. After one of the campaigns, there was a volunteer appreciation get together at his home where he lives with Olivia Chow, a politician in her own right and a failed federal candidate in 2004. She was down at city hall this morning where I was eating my free hemp pancakes for Bike to Work Week.

I've never been a card carrying member, just a fellow traveller. I'm an independent voter who usually winds up voting NDP. The only political party I've sort of belonged to was the Rhinoceros Party via the campus Young Rhinos at McMaster University in Hamilton back in the 1980s.

There, I had the misfortune to make the acquaintance of Craig Chandler, then a bullying head of the campus Young Reformers and local failed candidate, later a failed candidate in Calgary and later head of a supposed business pressure group. Oh, I yearn for the good old days of the Progressive Conservative Party where you didn't have to be inhuman to be right-wing! Joe Clark, Jake Epp and others were people you could respect and honour, even if you couldn't support their party.

Because I was trying to find the Grosseschnauzer IDU diplomatic flag, which Yelden Dairy Commission kindly found, we can revive this thread and add the flag of the Schnauzer Dominions.

Flags of the IDU - Eisophca - 02-06-2006

Ceorana's flag is shown in our avatar. The cross is similar to that of other Nordic areas, and the blue and green represent our peaceful and progressive nature.
