Bears Armed - 07-04-2011
This thread is for posting information about the types of animals that can be found in the region?s assorted nations: General eco-systems present, lists of particularly noticeable species, details of any species that don?t also occur in RL, and so on: This is to complement the thread that I?d already started a thread on the subject about of the region?s (?traditional?) general patterns of fauna, which I?ll be expanding at some point within the next few weeks.
This is
NOT intended as a
?over-power the last monster posted? thread, or as a
?post copies of other people?s artwork taken from video-games? one?

The faunas of these lands are basically comparable in general composition to those that exist across the temperate parts of RL Europe although some of the species and genera found would actually be considered more typical of other parts of the 'Holarctic' region instead, including not just ones with links to the 'Nearctic' (North America) as is fairly common for the faunas of this continent as a whole but also some whose RL roots lie in the 'eastern Palaearctic' (i.e. eastern Asia) too. However this specific area is home to quite a few endemic species
(i.e. ones that apparently don't exist anywhere else) and the natures of some of those suggest that a significant proportion of the area must actually have been isolated from the wider region for quite a lengthy period during the current ('Neozoic') Era... or maybe, I suppose, that it underwent a wave of immigration from an area elsewhere that had been isolated in that way...

Sidh Ohn
Ohn Wolves: The Ohn Wolf appeared in the IDU at the same time as the Ohn. Not actually a canine; like the Ohn they are an unknown species of carnivore that may or may not be distantly related to the Ohn themselves. The are called wolves by outsiders because the roughly resemble RW Dire Wolves, though they are much larger, being roughly the size of a horse. Ohn Wolves are highly intelligent and quickly form bonds of loyalty with individual Ohn from a young age. They have a fairly long lifespan, living roughly 50 years. The Ohn Wolf is an apex predator, fast, agile, extremely powerful, and able to withstand and track prey across the harshest conditions. Since there introduction, other large predator populations have dwindled in the lands now called Sidh Ohn, and it is likely that were the great Auroch herds not introduced with them that many species would have been hunted to extinction in short order.
Tharn Wolves: Actually a subspecies of Ohn Wolf, the primary difference is that they are even more aggressive, do not bond as readily, and seem to come exclusively in grey.
Muircine Wolves: The only other known subspecies of the Ohn Wolf, they are much smaller (about the size of an arctic wolf), and more territorial, as well as having a preference for fish.
Aurochs: Great herds of Aurochs were introduced by the Ohn upon there arival and, while allowed to generally run free, they are still cultivated and hunted by the Ohn as their primary food source. Aurochs are a type of shaggy wild cattle (extinct in the RW). Aurochs are far larger than most domestic cattle with a shoulder height of roughly 6.6 and weight of around 2,200 lbs.
Ice Crows: A subspecies of the IDU Chromatic Crow, the Ice Crow only exhibits the famous prismatic feather coloring in shades ranging from light blue to a silvery white.
Woolly Rhinoceros: Sidh Oh is home to a small population of this species. An adult woolly rhinoceros iss 3.7 metres (12 feet) in length, and 2 to 3 tons on average, but they can grow to 4.3 - 4.4 meters (over 14 feet) at the largest. Two horns on the skull are made of keratin, the anterior horn being 1 metre (3 feet) in length, with a smaller horn between its eyes. It has thick, long fur, small ears, short, thick legs, and a stocky body. There is a wide dark band between the front and hind legs.
Sea Wolves: A highly aggressive predatory fish that hunts in small schools, and which is common to the Muircine coast. Originally believed to be an unusually social type of shark, recent genetic testing has shown them to actually be a physically bizarre breed of barracuda that closely resemble some type of shark.
Arctic Wolves: Previously thought to have been driven to extinction, a small population of arctic wolves has recently been discovered to still be living in Sidh Ohn.
Arctic Foxes: Sidh Ohn is home to a small population of arctic foxes.

Grosseschnauzer - 07-11-2011
The schnauzerlands include plenty of schnauzers, of course (giants, standards, and minis,) and they can be used in agricultural areas as herders (sheep, goats, cows, chickens, and other fowls. The schnauzerlands have areas with mountains and valleys, great rivers, lakes, and plains, and near the coastlines, they'd be species like birds, and aquatic animals appropriate to the latitudes.
