Idufc 2008 -
Gerainia - 05-21-2008
Ages ago, the IDU used to have a football cup. Now I believe it's my duty to get it going again. So, who wants to host it? I'll score if people don't mind. Don't post rosters just yet, I'm just trying to get it going.
So this is basically just an OOC/interest thread at the moment. So, what do you say?
Idufc 2008 -
Gnejs - 05-31-2008
I/Gnejs would be willing to host it this year. I'm in the process of getting my wiki back on track, so my RP-things are a bit "all over the place" but I've got enough to front some stadiums in towns across the communes.
Idufc 2008 -
Gerainia - 05-31-2008
If no-one else wishes to bid, then it will be Gnejs whatever way. Any other bids?
Idufc 2008 -
Jagera - 07-20-2008
With the postponement/cancellation of the IDU Summer Games, there has been some discussion on moving forward with the 2008 IDUFC.
Do we have some interest in this still? Jagera enters a bid to host if this goes ahead, as stadiums in our new territories of Ceogar? and Austland need some publicity.
Idufc 2008 -
Baranxtu - 07-20-2008
I'd definitely participate, though not bid for hosting.
If we're short on participating nations, I could throw in my puppets, too
Idufc 2008 -
Cachette de Lions - 07-21-2008
Cachette de Lions will send a team, but we don't bid to host.
Idufc 2008 -
Antrium - 07-21-2008
We'll send a team, but not host.
Idufc 2008 -
Malabra - 07-22-2008
Malabra will also send a team, but not host...
Idufc 2008 -
Bears Armed - 07-22-2008
It's not one of the Bears' sports...

JageraJul 23 2008, 05:09 PM What about the Old Ceoranans?
H'mm. That does seem a possibility, as I seem to recall that 'Ceorana' took part in at least one earlier contest of this type. However I suspect that most if not all of their best players were probably part of the mass migration south-west, after the radiation accident, into what's now
your territory...
(OOC: I'd probably be too busy to take part in this, anyway _ relatives visiting town for a fortnight, the NS Olympics, the suggested regional resolutions that I promised to provide drafts of, and various other matters...)
Idufc 2008 -
Groot Gouda - 07-27-2008
Groot Gouda will send its team, but will not host the tournament.
Idufc 2008 -
groonlo - 07-27-2008
Same here. We'll send a team.
Idufc 2008 -
Saidercray - 07-29-2008
Also Saidercray would like to participate.
Idufc 2008 -
Jade Tigers - 07-30-2008
I'll send a team but am curious if this is american or european football (so I know what to write about the team.)
Idufc 2008 -

Sidh OhnJul 29 2008, 06:02 PM I'll send a team but am curious if this is american or european football (so I know what to write about the team.)
This would be Euro football.
Idufc 2008 -
Jagera - 08-02-2008
Thanks for the interest, everyone!
So far we have as participants:
Gerainia (?)
Gnejs (?)
Jagera
Baranxtu
Cachette de Lions
Antrium
Malabra
Groot Gouda
Groonlo
Saidercray
Sidh Ohn
Anyone else?
And unless anyone else surfaces, looks like I'm now scoring, as Gerainia told me I could

I'd like to get this started after delegate elections wrap up.
For information: I'm going to use the scoring system Groot Gouda previously employed in the
2005 Football Championship, reposted here for your reference:
Quote: I will use the benelux football tournament system, which determined the scores by ranking. You take the worldwide rankings of each nation, and strip the rankings so that both rankings have the same amount of numbers. (so if one is 134.946th, and the other 58.238th, you strip the 1 so both are 5 digits). Then, each digit is compared to the one of the other. The highest one gets a goal. If the scores draw, none gets a goal.
So, in our example:
34946 = 0 0 1 1 0 = 2
58238 = 1 1 0 0 1 = 3
so the final score is 2-3.
Points in the groups are as usual: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Points determine ranking, if they draw the difference between scored and received goals, then the result of the match between the tying nations, then the most scored goals. If everything draws, decision matches will be held to determine who goes to the next round.
In the knock-out rounds, after a draw, the IDU ranking is used in the same way to determine the scores after extra time. If that draws too, a penalty round determines the winner. Both teams get 5 penalties. By comparing the reverse of the home team against the other team worldwide ranking the outcome is determined (equal = both score). In our example
49431 = 0 1 1 1 0 = 3
58238 = 1 0 0 1 1 = 3
Note that the ranking is reversed first, then truncated.
So 3-3 after penalties. After which I give up and the highest world-wide ranking (that is the lowest number!) determines the outcome. (think of it as the second round of penalties where the first time one team scores and the other doesn't, it ends).
Proposed Schedule:
Preliminary matches: August 14-19
Quarter Final: August 21
Semi Final: August 23
Final: August 25
Idufc 2008 -
Gerainia - 08-02-2008
Yes, Gerainia will be there.
Idufc 2008 -
Bears Armed - 08-02-2008
You
might see a team from Greater Jamaica turning up, too, once my brother's family has gone back home from holidaying here (on the 9th August) and my nephew has access to their own computer again, as he's football-crazy...
Then again, he's only 11 years old so he might lose interest in NS before that point...
Idufc 2008 -
Jagera - 08-13-2008
NOTE: From this point results will be proceeding in a new thread: http://z10.invisionfree.com/IDU/index.php?showtopic=1453
Well, looks like it's time to go ahead!
First of all, we have ten teams that have expressed interest, plus Baranxtu's dependences. As twelve would work better, I would like to invite Cikoutimi and Otea to send their own teams. Does anyone have any objections? Please note, if you have not already posted interest and do still want to participate, now is the time to pipe up! We can kick Cikoutimi and Otea out if someone else wants in before the start.
We will divide the teams into three groups, allocated randomly:
Group A:
1 Cachette de Lions
2 Sidh Ohn
3 Groonlo
4 Gerainia
Group B:
1 Otea
2 Baranxtu
3 Saidercray
4 Groot Gouda
Group C:
1 Antrium
2 Malabra
3 Jagera
4 Cikoutimi
The first round will be a round robin within the groups. The schedule is as follows:
Playing schedule:
Thursday, August 14: 1 vs 2 & 3 vs 4
Saturday, August 16: 1 vs 3 & 2 vs 4
Tuesday, August 19: 1 vs 4& 2 vs 3
Wednesday, August 20: Tiebreaker if necessary.
Then will come the knockout round. There will be eight spots in the quarter finals. The two highest ranking teams in each group will automatically gain a spot. The two best third ranked teams will also qualify. Rankings are based on points, then goals. 3 points will be awarded for each win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. If two teams are tied within their group, the result of the game between them will decide. If this was a tie, or if two teams in different groups are tied for the last spot, a tiebreaker will take place on Wednesday, August 21 to decide which team gets in.
Championship Schedule:
Quarter Final:
Thursday, August 21:
1. A 1st ranked vs Second 3rd ranked (not from A group)
2. B 2nd ranked vs C 1st ranked
3. Best 3rd ranked (not from B group) vs B 1st ranked
4. C 2nd ranked vs A 2nd ranked
Semi Final:
Saturday, August 23:
1. Winner 1 vs Winner 4
2. Winner 2 vs Winner 3
Final and Consolation Final:
Monday, August 25:
Winner 1 vs Winner 2 for 1st place
Loser 1 vs Loser 2 for 3rd place
