Description: UN Resolution #70: Banning whaling (Category: Environmental; Industry Affected: All Businesses) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.
Argument: 1): NOTING the passage of United Nations Resolution #119, UNCoESB;
2): FURTHER NOTING article 7 of UNCoESB which bans all hunting of endangered species, in addition to other provisions which ensure the survival of endangered species;

We agree with the repeal author that the UNR#119 is a fine piece of legeslation and that the creation of the UNCoESB is a great step forward in the animal protection struggle. We are, however, not convinced that the UNR#70 is "redundant", "unnecessary" and that it should be removed. We see no conlifct in having both the UNR#70 and UNR#119 active. The UNCoESB grants great protection for a wide variety of species, but we believe that there still can be made room for special interests groups when it comes to certain animals. Whales and whale hunting are a profitable line of business, and a cruel and barbarous one that makes whales are a very vulnerable species in numerous ways.
Without the UNR#70, we have, in accordance with UNR#119, an acceptable general animal protection law, but no specific regulations concering "Whaling".
article 7 of UNCoESB, which the repeal author refers to, states: Quote: Where a Species of animal has come dangerously close to world extinction levels, The UN shall impose a Full escalation of Protection to the species. All hunting of the species shall be expressly forbidden.[/quote]
Meaning only when we reach "world extinction levels" a ban will be implemented. Simply not enough in our opinion. No, instead we would like to see more "special interests" resolutions, in the likes of UNR#70, to work along sides with the UNCoESB to further international animal protection, and therefore we will be casting our vote AGAINST this repeal.
